Best of Fairyburger 2015

This year has been pretty crazy in terms of life events and all that goodness, and after last year’s Best of Fairyburger post, I figured I’d continue with the tradition this year as well! This is as much a year in review (kindasorta) as it is a post roundup!

Medicine/Health

At the start of this year, I started up my weekly (now not quite as weekly, but hopefully it’ll pick back up again after my audition rotations and interviews) series, Medical Mondays, to cover different health issues and topics! :]

One of my med school friends and I developed FM Student to provide a resource to 3rd and 4th-year medical students who are interested in pursuing Family Medicine! :]

I also became a student writer for The DO, an online magazine for osteopathic physicians, and was selected as one of three finalists for a blog competition (more on that later–I’ll be needing your help next month! <3)!

The Medical Mondays topic with the most views this year was…Sleep Hygiene! I guess that’s somewhat of a universal issue that plagues everyone!

10 Things Med Students Want You To Know was a surprisingly popular post! :O I actually just wrote it because I was inspired by a conversation I was having with several friends, but I’m glad people enjoyed it! :] If there’s anything else you’ve ever been curious about in regards to the life of a med student, let me know!

Truth be told, I was absolutely miserable during my psych rotation, so much so that I started attending the therapy sessions with the patients…and they actually helped me too, even though I wasn’t their target audience! It also manifested into these two posts:

Kicking Unhealthy Thinking Habits

So some good came out of that rotation after all (and I also learned what I didn’t ever want to be when I become a physician)!

I also got to work the Little League World Series! :D

Recipes

This section’s probably self-explanatory! ;P These were my 4 most popular recipes this year!

Fitness

In January, I became a Sweat Pink ambassador and a FitFluential ambassador! One of my most popular posts was on 10 Healthy Living Life Hacks!

10healthylivinglifehacks

When you spend the majority of your time in a hospital/clinic, I think it’s pretty normal to start dreaming of the whole, “One day, I’ll go here and here and here…” thing. My Ultimate Fitness Getaway post = my musings on what I’d want to do and where I’d want to go if free time and money were present in my life!

And…if you’re lucky enough to get to have vacation time/breaks, here are 5 ways to healthify your vacation!

Life/Travel

How I Survive/Thrive on $50/Month is still by far one of my most popular posts!

howisurvivethrive

I actually spent way less than $50/month this year because I gave up my apartment and lived mostly in student housing or bummed on friend’s couches/floors! Yay for almost no cost of living, not-so-yay for being homeless, but I’m saving money, and that’s what counts! It’s actually been a really fun adventure so far, which brings me to…some of my favorite travels!:

Aerial Lyra in Asheville, NC!

Cathedral Rock

Cathedral Rock in Sedona, AZ

And there you have it! I don’t know if anyone in med school ever says this, but…this year has been super fun! I’m excited for what next year will bring! (Excited and terrified, but it’s a good kind of terrified!)

I think one of my favorite/best posts this year was my Sweet Sesame Green Beans recipe just because so many people have been asking me for it for quite some time now. And it’s so easy!
