Adventures with Janji

The optional theme for The Fit Dish (hosted by Jill Conyers @ JillConyers.com, & Jessica Joy @ TheFitSwitch.org) is…Favorite Summer Smoothie! I kinda have a billion favorites, but I’ll be sharing two of em’ at the bottom of this post! :O

I promised I’d try to keep you all updated on my adventures as I traipsed across the country, so here we go! (In case you missed it, here’s part 1 of my weekend adventures!)

Follow me! :D

disclaimer

Earlier last month, I was contacted by Janji, a running apparel brand that provides water to countries in need. (You may have glimpsed this outfit in my flat-self photo collection!)

I’d heard about Janji before from Erica, who is pretty much my go-to source for finding out about new and awesome products in the world of health and fitness.

I love and adore volunteering, and causes that give back to the community, so naturally, I was super excited to hear from them! <3 I’m sure we’re all rather aware of how important hydration is, but not every place has that sort of luxury.

Janji works with Water.Org to fund the implementation of community-based water solutions in several different countries, including Ethiopia, Haiti, India, Kenya, Peru, Rwanda, Tanzania, and even right here in the U.S.!

Janji means “promise” in Malay, and the company’s promise is to use the power of running to fight the global water crisis.

For those of you who know me, you are likely well aware that I don’t really run anymore. (I ran my first and last race in the form of the Nike Women’s Half back in October of 2010, just for kicks.) The fact that all my former running buddies are neatly dispersed in every time zone other than my own (+ my love for lifting and dance) kinda pushed it off to the side.

However, my lack of running doesn’t mean that I can’t still love and appreciate high-quality workout clothes (I would honestly live in them if I could), especially when it means that I can help out someone else in the process! (It’s a win-win, situation, m’friends!)

I wore these to go exploring with one of my friends from grad school, Trish! <3 I haven’t seen her since we met up in Philly last year, and I’ve missed her tons. We communicate by way of texts, care packages, and sending pictures from imgur to each other, but let’s face it, technology will never take the place of getting to spend quality time with people in real life.

We’ve been planning all sorts of adventures ever since I finished taking my boards (let’s not talk about that) last month, so over the weekend, I drove to New Jersey to be her +1, and I got to scarf down copious amounts of delicious Bengali food!

This was my first of…5…plates.

I almost didn't have room for dessert. D:

And let’s not forget dessert! I almost didn’t have room, but thank goodness for dessert stomachs. D:

The following day, we made pancakes for breakfast after Trish came back from work. She has a sourdough starter that was started a decade ago back in Alaska! :O Someday, when I grow up am done moving all over the place, I’m hoping I can get some of that so I can have my own to make awesome foods!

Then we decided to go hiking in White Clay Creek! :] We didn’t quite find the trail we were looking for, but it is a-okay!

The capris I’m wearing = Janji’s Women’s Ethiopia Running Capris. Purchasing this particular pair gives a whole year’s worth of clean water to a person in Ethiopia! :]

Here’s me looking like I’ve been personally affronted by the tree.

These are quite possibly the softest and most comfortable capris I have ever owned. It kinda feels like you’re wearing nothing, which is a win in my book–especially in the summer!

Hooray for not being see-through either!

I promised Trish I’d add in her observations in this post, so here it is!

(My translation: doesn’t stain easily, flattering fit, no sweat stains!)

We went berry picking at Milburn Orchards in Maryland (yes, I hit up 4 states over the course of this weekend) afterward, and got a whole ton of blueberries (not pictured), as well as some raspberries + blackberries.

Afterward, we walked through the farmers’ market and sampled some of the peach salsa + peach preserves…and yay for more ice cream!

marylandmadnessicecream

Their Maryland Madness ice cream was lemon ice cream swirled with raspberry + dark/white chocolate pieces! :]

We took a collective nap when we got back, and made a quick dinner of poached sea bass with lemon, butter + spices, and roasted veggies (broccoli, asparagus, mushrooms + potatoes). <3

And…as promised, here are two of my favorite smoothies! <3

This Tropical Protein Smoothie was from Foodie Friday last week!

  • Have you ever heard of Janji?
  • What would you most want to have from their line? I have my eye on their Tanzania capris at the moment–they look super comfy as well, and provide 3 years(!) of clean water to a person in Tanzania!
  • What’s your favorite summer smoothie?

  9. I SO appreciate a good pair of capris. It’s the most comfortable piece of clothing for people who never stop moving like me! There are always thousand things to do and hundreds of places to visit. Plus, I try to sneak exercise into my day whenever I can. I am one of those crazy moms who is doing pushups in a corner of a room, while my kids are in a gymnastics class. Or doing triceps dips in the playground. I love all the beautiful photos of White Clay Creek! So peaceful!!!

It makes me so happy! :]
