Welcome to another My Month is Booked linkup! This past month was super, super busy so I only managed to finish 2 books!
My Month Is Booked: October 2026

They Never Learn, by Layne Fargo – Told in somewhat of a split timeline on two characters:
(1) an English professor who finds men who have gotten away with sexual assault/rape and makes them pay for it
(2) a college freshman trying to fade into the background and just do well in school, but she forms an intense, somewhat obsessive friendship with her roommate.
Reading about what happened at Cornell brought up a whole lot of rage in me, so I was specifically looking for books on feminine rage to read this month. This one definitely scratched that itch! Were parts of it twisted? Absolutely! But in a world where men keep getting away without any consequences at all because won’t someone please think about their bright and promising futures…this was highly satisfying.
This Girl’s A Killer, by Emma C. Wells – Cordelia Black is an ambitious pharmaceutical rep with expensive taste by day and has a unique pastime. (…Where she hunts down men who’ve escaped the very broken justice system.) When her best friend starts dating a man that Cordelia can’t be too sure is a good person, her typically-carefully laid out plans begin to unravel.
…You can probably tell I was still on my feminine rage kick. I enjoyed They Never Learn so much more. I thought I’d be rooting for a female version of Dexter here but found this main character to be pretty insufferable. If there’d been about 80% less repetitive sentences/words + more showing than “telling,” this would’ve been a more enjoyable read.
…This is definitely the least I’ve ever read in a month in a whileee. The burned CD I recently unearthed that I’ve been listening to it on repeat instead of audiobooking is partly to blame for this!
I was supposed to finish The Rosie Effect but found out I was scheduled to work the day of the book club, so my motivation to finish it kinda dwindled away. (I ended up finding someone to trade shifts with me though, so we just talked about the book without spoilers, hehe.)
- What did you read this month?
- Any recent books you’ve read that you thought you’d enjoy more but didn’t really?
