Ultimate Coffee Date: September 2022

Welcome to September’s Ultimate Coffee Date! If you’ve stopped by at all in between coffee dates, you probably know that I still (sadly) have not gotten my shiz together in writing again. (I still hope to change this before the end of the year! :'( )

Ultimate Coffee Date: September 2022

We don’t have a couch yet, so I set up my hammock stand inside so that if I feel like lying down while watching TV, there’s still a way to do so! Muffin commandeered it and is looking pretty darn comfortable…

If we were having coffee/tea today, Iā€™dā€¦tell you that I am slowly, slowly dipping my toesĀ  back into the things I used to do (namely, Polynesian dance + rock climbing for the time being).

I miss hiking as well, and I’m hoping to go back to aerial silks/lyra, pole, jiu-jitsu, and lifting too but sadly, there’s really only so much I can fit into a day (especially if I finally start actually blogging again). It’s still been pretty swampy at work lately in terms of workload, so baby steps! (I just found out how many patients I had on my panel. Wanna guess how many there are!?)

Also, since I also recently got back into reading for fun again, I even went out and got myself a library card! :O They had 4 choices but this was too cute to pass up!

If we were having coffee/tea today, Iā€™dā€¦tell you that I got to perform with the Awesƶme Orchestra Collective again! (I’ve only been to 2 of their reading sessions in the past — the first one I ever went to was at the California Academy of Sciences). About once a month, mostly-Bay Area musicians gather at a venue for a reading session ofĀ  selection of different pieces. :] I’ve gotten to do two of them so far but definitely am hoping to do more again in the future (especially if I finally start playing piano again…)!

It was back at the California Academy of Sciences again for one of their NightLife series on video games! We did a piece from Super Smash Brothers Ultimate and Celeste + I loved getting to hear a piece from Chrono Trigger (one of my favorite games of all time and also one of the few RPGs I’ve ever finished in my life.)

If we were having coffee/tea today, Iā€™dā€¦ask if you ever go on walks around yourĀ  neighborhood and if you’ve found anything amazing. We discovered a velociraptor in someone’s front yard complete with bunny ears, mardi gras beads, and a talisman(?)! So much character. :D I get a kick out of it every time I pass by it.

  • Have you signed up for any races or events lately? I agreed to bike up a mountain with my brother and am pretty apprehensive about it at the moment becauseĀ  I do not do cardio. (Obviously, I will need to now, haha.) Thankfully, it’s not a race, and if you can’t pedal up, you can still walk your bike up, so if all else fails, I should be in the clear.
  • I’ve been listening to audiobooks lately during my commute to pass the time. Have you read any good books lately? Got any audiobooks to recommend?
  • Do you have 123912780 hobbies? How do you split your time in between each?

  1. We’ve been ridiculously busy at work lately–but a lot of my time is spent on mental health issues in my patients. It’s a tough time for everyone. And don’t even ask me how big my panel is, lol. We all have too many patients on our panels right now!

Sounds like you’re finding time for your hobbies!

    1. Agreed! :( I really hope it gets better soon but that remains to be seen, haha.

I’ve dedicated about 2-3 hours per week to things but hoping to expand that shortly so that I have a little allotted time for something on a more daily basis. Fingers crossed that that time management works out, haha.

  2. You are such a busy gal! I’m excited to hear more about that bike ride…sounds like a fun adventure ;-)

    1. I’ll definitely have to write about it! I foresee myself having to get off the bike to walk for some sections — that mountain is steep! ._.

  3. That is great that you are ready to return to some of your fave old hobbies. That’s what life is all about making time for the things you love. I remember your dancing photos from years ago!

    1. Slowly but surely! :D Most of my hobbies kinda took a backseat during the last couple years due to covid so I’m slowwly inching back into em’ now.

  4. What instrument do you play in the orchestra? That sounds like a really fun activity!
Biking up the mountain does sound like a fun adventure. You could do a blog post recapping it (with lots of pictures!)
I LOVE the fox library card!

    1. I learned flute and violin back in the day but am not good at either so I usually hop in when they have singing parts available. Sometimes they do have parts for piano as well so one of these days, I’m hoping to pop in for that too! :]

That’s a great idea! I’ll definitely have to do that! :D

      It was so cute!!

  5. Hahaha – we don’t have any velociraptors but there is a house nearby with the tail end of a car sticking out of the ground… Plus we have lots of little fairy doors in the trees which are always fun to see – I send pictures of them to my nieces.

    1. Aww, that’s really cool! We don’t have fairy doors but we do have a tree out front… Maybe I’ll add that! :D

  6. Now that is different, seeing a velociraptor in the hood! Good luck biking up the mountain.

I just finished up Where the Crawdads Sing ( have not seen the movie). I thought it was excellent, although it sort of petered out a bit for me near the end — still, there’s a twist at the end.

I just started Matthew McConahey’s Greenlights. That is a trip! Apparently people love it or hate it (but I could just listen to his voice all day). Let’s just say he is a weird dude, and I suspect some of the stories are embellished. But still it’s keeping me entertained!

    1. Thank you! I went biking for the first time in forever today and it was good to get out. I’m definitely worried about the elevation gain though!

I liked Where the Crawdads Sing a lot too! I want to reread it before I watch the movie.

haha, I haven’t read that one yet but it definitely sounds interesting!

  7. I need a raptor in my yard!

I have so many hobbies. I cycle through them. Right now, I’m making earrings. We will see how it goes.

    1. That’s awesome! I definitely end up cycling through mine as well — there (sadly) is never enough time for everything!

  8. I love how you have so many interesting (and varied) hobbies! I struggle just to get running done in between everything else! I walk around the neighbourhood with my son and if he saw that velociraptor his day would be made! How awesome.

I want to get into rock climbing! You are so inspiring with everything you do on top of being an amazing doctor. Youā€™re a musician too!? Incredible. You said you want to play the piano again so what instrument did you play when you took part in that orchestra session?
What books are you reading? Thatā€™s an adorable library card by the way.šŸ„°

    1. If you’re ever out here, lemme knowww! We can go hiking and rock climbing! :D

And thank you!! <3 They had choral parts for a few of the songs, so I got to sing for those pieces! :]

I'm currently reading Nowhere For Very Long and the book club I'm in voted for The Lincoln Highway, so I'll be starting that up too once it comes in the mail! :]
