Fitness Goals For 2019

It’s supposed to beĀ FoodieĀ FridayĀ with with Annmarie from theĀ Fit Foodie MamaĀ + Esther fromĀ Chocolate Runner GirlĀ today…butĀ I’ve been pretty bad about posting new recipes this year, especially over the second half. :/ So my apologies (and sadly, nothing new this week, although I will be posting previous recipes I’ve made that are super easy for meal prep!).

As of 2 weeks ago, I’ve finished my interviews for sports medicine fellowships!Ā I’ll be finding out where I’m spending my next year (July 2019 and on) in less than 3 weeks!Ā We’re also in the middle of interviewing candidates for next year’s batch of interns, and I’ve gotten to interview a few days’ worth of candidates, so it’s been interesting being on the other side!

I figured I’d check in on my fitness goals from 2018 and also go over my goals for next year! I still have half a year to work on these, so fingers crossed that I can make a dent at least in the hiking one!

Fitness Goals for 2019

Drink more water (ideally 8 cups/day).

I am so, so terrible about doing this. I have cactus tendencies, especially when I’m working on hospital service (no time to pee!), but I really want to work on drinking more than 1-2 cups of water per day. (Yes, yes, I know. ._.)

Go back to lifting (hopefully 2-3x/week).

The (academic) year isn’t over yet so I could in theory still enter another powerlifting competition (the last one I did was 4 years ago…), but I haven’t been lifting consistently in a veryyy long time, so I need to get back to that first!

Start taking aerial silks classes.

I’ve been dabbling in aerial silks over the last couple years (and by that, I mean something like 1-2 classes per year), which is no way to truly learn or improve…so I found a circus arts school that’s semi-close to me and actually works with my schedule (what what?!), so I contacted them and will be starting this up early next year!

Stay with the salsa club +Ā rock climbing rec team and re-join the ballroom dancing club.

Competing in ballroom dancing is dependent on how I’m feeling about boards studying (I’ll be taking it on April 20 next year!) and being part of the RU Salsa Project 2019 largely depends on whether or not I’ll even be in the area at the time, but I definitely hope to continue dancing and also improving in rock climbing! I’ve progressed from 5.6’s to a 5.9 overhang (my current best)!

Try to do yoga + stretching at least 3x/week.

This is something I’ve been meaning to try to get into for agessssss, and it’d definitely be super helpful for dance, silks, and rock climbing, so win-win!

End-of-Week-ish Recap!

  • Have you ever been to Hong Kong? I’ve really only ever gone to eat/shop/visit family, but when I went back a couple weeks ago, I went hiking on Lamma Island! :]

  • Do you make resolutions? I don’t tend to, but I’m still working on my 101 in 1001!
  • Do you have any fitness goals for next year?

  1. I like to set goals for the new year, and all the time really. I don’t particularly make resolutions. It looks like you did a great job of meeting most of yours. I love all the hiking you do, such a great way to explore new places.

    1. Thanks! All the explorations keep life interesting! :P I like setting goals whenever too–helps me to accomplish more! :]

    1. Thanks, Kim! :]

  4. I don’t really do resolutions and I tend to have one goal race a year to focus on! I like to stay active and just change it up on a monthly basis!

I say you’ve done quite a bit this year! Still impressive, even though you’re still backlogged for all of your other adventures! haha.

My goal for next year are two things:

    1) Another powerlifting competition as well. Work had been so hectic this past year that my training was all over the place. I’m doing Madcow right now and I hope that it puts me in the right tack to destroy my previous lifts in competition!
    2) I need a new job, haha! I will be applying like crazy the next couple of months because I think I need a change in scenery. I love the work that I do and the freedom that I have, but lately I’ve felt a bit stagnant and a few extra bucks wouldn’t hurt either.

Here’s some preworkout music for when you head to the gym!: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wg5LmCnYJVk

    1. hehehe, I’ve been trying! I’m still so so behind though. x_x

Ooo, best of luck to you on the powerlifting! I really want to get back to my old numbers before I enter another one, but the whole workout consistency thing has not been doing so well lately. :[ I hope you kick all the butts!

Good luck with the job hunting too! Let me know how that goes! :O

+ thank you for the workout music, hahaha. :D

  5. I need to try rock climbing still! Looks so fun

    1. I hope you get to try it sometime! :D

  6. You’re involved in so many sports! I keep meaning to visit the bouldering room at the university gym, but it hasn’t happened since I took a class there umm….a year ago at least?

    1. haha, I like way too many things! :P That’s awesome that the university gym has a bouldering room! Our rock wall closed for winter break so I have sadly been without for a couple weeks now!

  7. It’s so cool that you joined a rock climbing team. I’ve rock climbed a few times at my gym but nothing beyond that.

    1. It’s definitely a great workout! :D

  8. These are all great goals! I love the pictures of you rock climbing…I have never done that, but looks so fun!!!

    1. It’s been lots of fun (and definitely a good workout, haha)! :]!

  9. I did make some predictions for this year and I was correct on half.

My only goal to stay healthy enough to run without pain and not DNS any races.

    1. I usually make a fairly unrealistic number of goals so that it motivates me to accomplish as much as I can, hehe.

Best of luck to you on your goals!
