Ultimate Coffee Date: October 2025

Welcome to October’s Ultimate Coffee Date! I had so, so many plans for this year, but there have been a whole lot of wrenches thrown in this year.

Ultimate Coffee Date: October 2025

I went back to my former college for a reunion with friends a couple weekends ago! :]

If we were having coffee/tea today, I’d tell you that…fire eating has never really been on my bucket list, but since it is fire-dancing-adjacent and the opportunity presented itself, I decided to try it out…

Not gonna lie, I was definitely a little nervous and had to do some internal pep talks to make this happen, haha.

If we were having coffee/tea today, I’d tell you that…I’d tell you I went back to archery again! (Second time this year, which isn’t much, but it’s a better track record than years past!)

We’re in the midst of planning our Mongolian trip for next year and I’m super excited! :D Hopefully, around 10-11 months from now, we’ll be riding through the steppes + learning archery on horseback!

If we were having coffee/tea today, I’d tell you that…I’d tell you that I went to a conference lately and ate way, way too much. 😅 It’s hard to scale back when the food is tasty and free… My friend snapped a photo of my slacking and schnacking.

I also recently got called in for jury duty and they actually picked me again. (The last time was in 2019.) I had to cancel ~50+ patients off my schedule, but the trial ended way earlier than expected, so we had to call and reschedule everyone again. 😵‍💫

I felt super guilty about having to cancel and stuffed in a whole lot more appointments this week + also worked last weekend, so I’ve been pretty exhausted. Super glad to have a work-free weekend this week though!

Here’s a Tofu being super cute and watching TV with me!

  1. I’m way impressed that you tried eating fire. I’m pretty sure I’d be terrified trying to do that.

I’ve been sent the card saying I was selected for jury duty several times, but never actually called in the night before when in Virginia we call in to check and see if we’ve been selected. What a pain having to cancel and then reschedule clients. Been there / done that, but in your case you had to show up and had no idea how long the trial would last. That must have really been annoying.

You must be having so much fun planning your trip to Mongolia.

BTW, after you mentioned your ZZ plant and how easy it is to grow on one of my blog posts, I bought one at Trader Joe’s. It has doubled in size in about 10 months. :-)

    1. haha, believe me I was nervous! I’m glad it turned out okay though! :P

It definitely was inconvenient but they thanked us so many times for being there that I felt kinda guilty about not wanting to do it, haha. All things considered, it was a super short case, so it could’ve been a lot more inconvenient!

Ooo, I’m so glad to hear that! :D My ZZ plant is still going but not looking as happy lately — not sure if it’s just because it’s getting colder now(?).

  2. Archery I love! Fire eating hmmm not so much. Love that you will try anything!

    1. During our coffee date, I’d probably spend most of it asking about the fire eating! That looks and sounds scary! I’ve never done archery but my son had a few lessons last year and absolutely loved it.

  3. Strangely, fire eating is not on my bucket list either! But glad you tried and survived it.
I had a similar experience with jury duty over the summer- had to cancel all my appointments and then worked on weekend to make up for it… not fun! There must be a better system.

    1. I wish there was a better system! I appreciate that they want a fair/impartial jury but the process selection took so long. o_o The actual case itself finished up much more quickly.

  4. Fire eating?! Wowza – you’re brave!

Glad you didn’t get stuck on jury duty for too long – such a hassle.

    1. hehe, it took a few internal/self-pep talks to get me going! :P

Agreed! I’m glad to be off the hook for a year though!

  5. Fire eating! I’m pretty adventurous, but I haven’t added to my bucket list, LOL!

    1. haha, I don’t blame you! It wasn’t on mine either but I figured I’d try it for funsies!

  6. You are honestly one of the coolest people I know. l love your spirit of adventure!

I’ve never been picked for jury duty. I get in the selection process and then I either know someone or the case is too close. It’s frustrating because I really want to serve.

    1. Aww, thank you! :] I think I just like too many things, haha.

I hope you get to sometime with an interesting case!

So is there a secret to fire eating? Or is it still scary? For some reason I’m not at all surprised that you did it!

Hmm, I was just in San Diego but at a conference so I didn’t get out much. Maybe you can do that hike I didn’t do. I would NOT suggest a solo trip to Balboa Park ….

    1. haha, it’s still scary. :[ I think the main secret is to not overthink it because the longer it burns, the hotter it is.

I went to the zoo today but did decide against visiting Balboa Park on my own. The zoo was a lot of fun! :] I will look into that hike (although I somehow/also-as-per-usual packed my schedule way too much again, haha)!
