Ultimate Coffee Date: October 2020

Welcome to the Ultimate Coffee Date! We’re almost to the end of the yearrrrr. How’s everyone holding up?

If we were having coffee/tea today, I’d…tell you that I’m kinda sad. I really like my job, but upper management recently decided to switch my MA to someone else. My MA applied for this job to work with me and we’ve been working together since we started here almost a year ago. They’re planning on hiring two full-time MA’s anyway, so it doesn’t make much sense to break us up.

She’s currently on a crusade to keep working with me though and I really hope she’s successful (because I was not successful in convincing management to let us keep working together :'( ).

This was at 12pm earlier last month! #nofilter I’m glad the skies are no longer apocalyptic!

If we were having coffee/tea today, I’d…tell you to…not put off things you plan to do for too long! Remember all the cookbooks I’ve been accumulating throughout the year? I always thought I’d have more time to go through em’ and make all the things (or y’know, some of the things) after I was finally done with med school and residency.

Sadddddly, this is not gonna be happening, as they are still nowhere to be found since the move. :[! Tis a bummer, but I guess it’s a part of life.

We can still cook though so it’s cool–these are beef empanadas from scratch!

If we were having coffee/tea today, I’d…tell you that I’m not really all doom and gloom. Although I’m bummed, in the grand scheme of things (esp in regards to 2020), things are overall going pretty well.

I’ve been doing a lot of random cooking classes with Yelp lately and they’ve been a lot of fun! My most recent experiments include decorating macarons, making empanadas from scratch + making safe-to-eat cookie dough!

  1. Those empanadas look gooood! I have to agree with your “don’t put things off for too long” philosophy. You never know what tomorrow will bring. Especially in 2020!

    1. Thank you! And for sure—nooo way to predict what’s going to happen next!

  2. I hope you can keep your MA! Sounds like a tough situation. That edible cookie dough looks delicious!

    1. Thank you! It’s not sounding good right now :[ trying to stay optimistic though!

  3. Sorry that you and your colleague got split up! That’s a bummer but it does sound like things are going well for you otherwise. Thanks for stopping in for coffee today always great to have you!

    1. Thanks! I got to work with her today so it was a bright spot in my day!

  4. Ugh, it is frustrating when the powers that be decide to “fix” things that aren’t broken. I hope things work out. I love your macarons even though they aren’t very happy.

That sky looks apocalyptic for sure!

    1. Right?! We’re still really upset about it. :[

Hehe, they don’t wanna be eaten!

  5. I hope you and your colleague are able to continue to work together! Your cooking exploits look so good. For years I’ve been tearing recipes out of magazines, newspapers, etc and have them in a ring binder. Some I make and most I do not. I hope your cookbook collection surfaces!

    1. Thank you! All my limbs crossed!

I really hope so too! Maybe in my next move?! 😵

  6. I really hope you can work things out so you and your MA can continue to work together. Those homemade empanadas look delish!

    1. Thank you! I really hope so too!

  7. Can I say that cookie dough (almost) looks too beautiful to eat? I hope things work out with your MA…#fingerscrossed for you!

    1. Aww, thanks so much! I’m gonna have to experiment with other flavors soon!

  8. So curious why you and your MA are being separated? I had some MA drama a few times at my old clinic and it was horrible. I had 2 amazing MAs but the other MAs made their lives miserable because they were jealous of our relationship. You can’t win, right? I hope you can work things out. A good MA is hard to find. At my current clinic, I have 3 good MAs. We rotate them. It’s been over 3 years and I wouldn’t trade them for anything!

    1. The answers they gave me didn’t make any sense (ie “to match up schedules better” and because “their panel size was bigger so they needed more help”)…but we have the same exact schedule and my panel is actually bigger so we suspect it’s something bigger (or it’s personal?). :[

That’s precisely why I don’t wanna lose her—we work super well together and she’s awesome! They said they’re hiring someone new for me but I’d rather just keep who I have now. :/

  9. I’m so sorry about your coworker. Not quite sure what an MA is, but still, it’s hard when management seems to make random decision like that.

I don’t cook (or bake) as much as I used to. Too busy with Yoga and dogs, and also just can’t afford to eat like I used to either. Oh, the baking I did when I was your age!

    1. Oops, sorry! MA = medical assistant. We have not won our battle, unfortunately, so still just dealing for now.

I wanna do more of it but it always feels so daunting! 😅

  10. I enjoyed reading your coffee dates moment! Have to visit here often!

    1. Aww, thank you! I love this linkup — it’s a fun way to connect every month with fellow bloggers! :]
