Ultimate Coffee Date: June 2018

Welcome to another Ultimate Coffee Date! Can you believe it’s already June? (Once upon a time, I was supposed to be born at the end of June, but I guess I was just too excited to start living! :O! )

Ultimate Coffee Date: June 2018

If we were having tea today, I’d…tell you that aside from the posts I already had scheduled from a few weeks/months ago, I’ve kinda been on a blogging/social media break of sorts because I’ve been on vacation and spending time with family/friends, most of whom I haven’t seen in over a year.

Sometimes, that feels like the hardest part of med school/residency–I’ve been “displaced” and on my own for a good 6-ish years now, and although I technically have a good support system, I don’t want to burden people with my troubles/worries. Everyone has something they’re dealing with and I usually feel like mine aren’t bad enough to warrant complaint/mentioning. I think one of the things I’m especially gonna try to work on = sharing my thoughts more. (We’ll see where that takes me. >_>)

If we were having tea today, I’d…tell you that I have a tendency to try to pack in as many activities/reunions/get-togethers as humanly possible whenever I’m home. A camping trip, two hikes (1 20-miler and one “nature walk” :P ), several pole classes, a childhood friend’s wedding and a bunch of hangouts with friends including the very first reunion with all my college housemates since we graduated from college (it’s been way too long :[ ). My brother’s climbing Mount Whitney with his friends soon (I can’t go :'( so sad!) so I joined in on their training last week and we climbed 180 floors with 15-25lb packs. x_x

There have been lots of good eats too! <3

The break from social media and just living life has been just what I needed, but I’ll be getting back to blogging and residency-ing soon!

  1. That’s great that you have been able to spend time with family and friends recently. It always feels good to reconnect!

    1. It definitely does! :]!

  2. Being a blogger, I now “know “ many fellow bloggers all over the country and it’s fun to meet them when I travel. My sister, who i often travel with, doesn’t agree. That’s kind of tough! I’m glad you were able to make the most of your time away!

    1. That was definitely one of the awesome things about my fourth year of medical school! :] I spent a lot of time traveling from rotation to rotation but it wasn’t as hectic/stressful as it could’ve been because each new place was like a new adventure and I got to meet a few blog friends along the way! :]

  3. My social media activity ebbs and flows. When I am on vacation or even travelling for work I realize how much time it takes because I don’t have that 1/2 hour over breakfast or time after dinner I usually spend on-line when I’m home.
I think friends don’t mind hearing about what you’re struggling with because it gives them something else to think of besides what they’re struggling with. ;-)

    1. haha, same here (especially lately)! :P I definitely didn’t realize how much time it took until I stopped it (for the most part) over the last couple weeks!

I’ll have to keep that in mind! Sometimes I feel like it’d help just to talk some stuff out!

  4. we all need a break sometimes! Looks like you’ve been having lots of quality time with friends and that’s fab! Thanks for joining us for coffee today

    1. Agreed! It was definitely a welcomed break! Thank you for co-hosting! :]!

  5. Aww, I’m sorry you feel like your “problems” aren’t worth talking about. I think your friends would understand. Like you said, everyone has something they worry about or that bothers them. And if it’s important to you, Your friends will understand.

I too always try to pack so much stuff in to do when i get a day off or am on vacation. When I’m done I usually need a rest from my “day off”..haha

    1. That’s true! I feel like I have to remind myself that sometimes, haha.

Me too! I thought I had the day off today, which would’ve been super helpful for catching up/life admin + all that goodness…but found out last minute that I in fact did not. x_x Sigh!

  6. I like taking a break from social media and for me, they are much needed. I have honestly thought about whether or not I would even be on social media if it wasn’t for my blog. I totally overdo it when I go places! I want to do everything and see everyone!

    1. I know I likely would not be on social media (except maybe instagram) if not for my blog, hahaha.

I’m with you–time’s limited, so gotta stuff everything in! :P

  7. Everyone needs a social media break!!! Glad you took it

    1. It’s definitely nice to unplug once in a while! :]!

  8. There are some times when I take a mini social media break (like the past few weeks I gave up a blog post each week to allow for other things–>graduation stuff. AS much as I love being connected with people (many of whom I’ve never actually met LOL), I do respect I need to give equal time (or at least a fair amount) to those who are active in my (real) life

    1. Definitely! I love being connected with the friends I’ve made over my blog, but I definitely gotta give my “real life” friends time when I’m actually there to spend time with em’ (and also to live life! :P ). I need to find some piece of time to schedule a bunch of posts into the future so I can do that more, haha. *-*

I quite enjoyed the nature walk, and the Resident Evil mansion.

    1. It was a lot of fun! :D! The tacos were awesome too, hehehe.

  10. Farrah,
I am like you and try and JAM PACK as many activities and people in as possible when home – which makes it stressful instead of relaxing – which defeats the purpose
AND as far as your feelings – everyone has their OWN issues, but just cause your problem may not be as “bas” as someone else’s doesn’t mean you cannot feel a certain way or share it <3

    1. haha, I’m so glad I”m not the only one! I got a liiiiittle bit of relaxing in, so that definitely helped!

I really appreciate that! <3 I'm not very good at sharing so it's something I'm always working on, haha. ._. Thank you!

  11. It’s amazing how many activities you were able to squeeze in on your trip home. I feel tired just reading about them! Especially the 180 floors with 15-25 lb sacks.

So often we don’t want to burden friends and family, but sharing the good and the bad is part of life. If you had a friend who was struggling with something, I’ll bet you would want to know about it and help your friend. They feel the same about you :)

    1. hahaha, I was so tired! :'( I actually wanted to quit at the 12th set but I didn’t want to be the weakest link, so I pressed on, ahaha.

Thank you! That’s really true–I’m definitely gonna have to remember that the next time I talk down my own thoughts, haha. ._.

  12. I think a few of have been taking a blogging/social media break…nothing wrong with that! I am envious of your hiking adventures, how beautiful, and how fun! It’s so important to take those opportunities with family and close friends.

    1. hehe, agreed! I feel like summer is the time to do it–the weather’s so nice outside! Perfect for explorations! :P

  13. I’m usually plugged in somewhat, but I also don’t feel terribly addicted to social media, so I’m okay not being on it a lot. Granted, it’s probably been awhile since I’ve really gotten away from social media AND blogging. I’m glad you’ve been having fun seeing friends and family, but sheesh, you have got to be a bit tired from all that socializing! LOL

    1. hehe, I feel like I wouldn’t have any social media (other than maybe instagram, because yay for cute animals and delicious food photos) if not for this blog. It was kinda nice to step away from both for a while and to truly have a break!

I’m definitely tired from all the socializing, haha. A break to recover from break would be so nice!

  14. I always find it hard to start up the writing thing again after a break- yours sounds like it was fantastic and SO social in the in-person way…the best kind!

    1. Oh, definitely! I wish it could happen more often but since it can’t, I just cram all the hangouts into a super short span of time, haha. I’m backlogged on so many posts (some still from last year)–I’ll finish em’ someday, hopefully!! :P

  15. My blogging/social media breaks are usually accidental! It’s just pretty low on my priority list tbh – if fitting it in is going to be stressful, then I have no problem letting it slide.

  16. Yay! Breaks are so important – but I totally feel you about needing a vacation after a vacation. Sometimes we do SO MUCH whilst on vacation (particularly if we’re visiting a new go us country) that I get home wanting to do nothing.
