Tiny House Cooking

I’mmm back with another cookbook review! If you live in a small-ish space and/or are trying to adopt more of a minimalist lifestyle, definitely read on! (And even if you don’t, there are lots of tasty lookin’ recipes to be had in here, so this’ll be awesome either way!)

I’ve been living on my own for quite some time now, and got super used to moving all over the place during med school (especially during 4th year). What started off as a 2-bedroom apartment in West Virginia morphed into half a house (when I moved into Please Save A Cat), then a spacious 1-bedroom apartment in Kentucky, and now a 1-bedroom in New Jersey. I’ve accumulated a lotttt of stuff during that time, so although my apartment isn’t tiny, it definitely feels smaller because of all the boxes of stuff I have that I’m always trying (slowly but surely) to work through.

I am a sentimental packrat, and also have issues throwing out things when I feel like I can find a way to repurpose it (so as not to waste). It unfortunately makes for a terrible combination, but I’m working on it. In the meantime, this cookbook is pretty much meant for me (and others who can relate).

Tiny House Cooking: 175+ Recipes Designed to Create Big Flavor in a Small Space

By Ryan Mitchell

Genre:Ā Food/Cooking
Pages:Ā 248

Tiny House Cooking‘s focus is on packing flavor into recipes meant to be cooked in a small kitchen–all the recipes are designed to be cooked on a two-burner cooktop with no need for ovens, toaster ovens or microwaves(!). The recipes use mostly fresh/canned foods (to maximize your freezer space), use few pots/pans, and are made to serve two people (less waste), although they can be easily doubled if you have company!

The first chapter, “Cooking in a Tiny House” goes into things to consider for your kitchen plan if you have a small kitchen, along with a general list of helpful appliances to have in a basic kitchen (without going overboard), and also goes into how to handle trash, composting and recycling!

The rest of the book is divided into the following chapters:

Tiny House CookingĀ includes over 175 recipes, each with an ingredient list, serving size, and instructions. Not all the recipes are accompanied by photos, but the ones that are included are beautiful! *-* There’s a convenientĀ US/Metric Conversion Chart included at the back of the book, as well as a handy index! I’d recommend this to anyone living in smaller quarters, trying to adopt a more minimalist approach in the kitchen, or just looking for simple recipes that don’t sacrifice flavor. :]!

    1. I feel ya! My apartment is so cluttered because I feel like I’m wasting stuff if I throw em’ away–I’m always trying to find other purposes for things, but I really need to just do a huge cleanse, haha.

  2. Yum! Some of these look so good. I live with my family still, but we have a VERY tiny kitchen so this would be amazing for us!
