Ultimate Coffee Date: July 2021

Welcome to the Ultimate Coffee Date! Come catch up on life/hang out with me virtually this month! (I need some advice on a future project if you don’t mind weighing in!)

As an advance warning, the photos have absolutely nothing to do with my post and everything to do with a recent reunion with two of my super-awesome friends from college!

Back in the day, we’d go to Burgers & Brew for team bonding, so of course we went back!

If we were having coffee/tea today, I’d…tell you that…I’m moving next month! If you followed along with me during my med school adventures, it probably seemed like I was moving almost every month. (This wasn’t too far from the truth during my fourth year.)

Cost of housing in the bay area is frightening/astronomical but after extensive internet-listing-hounding, we managed to find an amazing deal with a landlord who seems super cool, so we’re really excited! :]

Which brings me to my next point — said landlord is cool with me using the backyard to grow stuffs!

If we were having coffee/tea today, I’d…ask if you grow anything/have a garden! I’ve always wanted to have a garden but also always thought I had black thumbs, so I figured this could not be. However, the plant my boss gave me when I started working is still alive and well (my medical assistant commented on how giant and healthy it looked yesterday!), so perhaps there is hope even for me.

So far, I’m thinking of growing…

  • Basil
  • Mint
  • Cilantro
  • Green Onion
  • Rosemary

I’m also toying with the idea of putting together a DIY hydroponic garden! If anyone has any suggestions on things to grow, any general advice, or has put together their own little backyard garden before, please let me know! It’s all fairly new to me. (I last grew some green onion in a mason jar in 2016. :[ )

Reunion at long lasttttt. <3

If we were having coffee/tea today, I’d…I’d tell you that I did a playground workout with my brother and one of our friends yesterday and everything hurts. (It has been far, far too long since I’ve truly worked out. The prolonged hanging off bars probably didn’t help either, haha.) I need to get my butt back to the gym!

A super tall giraffe! :O (Don’t mind me; I was feeling short.)

  1. good luck with your move! I am growing basil and mint in my aerogarden. Gardening is not my strong point at all! Good luck with yours and thanks for joining us

    1. Thank you! Fingers crossed that it goes well! I’m planning on starting with a couple and then expanding from there if the couple I start with do okay, heheh.

  2. Best of luck with your move! It’s great that you have found a landlord that you like. I love to garden – mostly flowers and some herbs. Feel free to send me any questions :)

    1. Thank you — I super appreciate it! :] Will likely be reaching out in a couple months with some questions after I get everything started up! :]

  3. I learned about Crater Lake last year in a book I read & I so want to go there!

Herbs are generally pretty forgiving. Tomatoes, too.

    Congrats on your new digs!

    1. I hope you get to go sometime!! It was so pretty. *-*

Ooo, definitely good to know! I’m going to need them to be at least mildly forgiving, hahaha.

  4. Yay on your move and good luck with growing things. My plants die when I get tired of of forget to water them …. Mint grows like a weed, at least around here. Basil can be more finicky, but I love it. Rosemary grows like a shrub, and doesn’t need too much TLC.

    1. I’m scared that’s gonna happen with me, but hopefully if I establish some semblance of a schedule, it’ll be a-okay! I’ve heard mint if pretty forgiving and also highly invasive/proliferative, so I might start with that just to give myself hope, haha. Definitely good to know about the rosemary! :] (The boyfriend specifically requested that one so I’d especially like to keep that one alive, haha.)

  5. Yay for finding a place with a cool landlord. I hope you love it! And that’s great he’s going to let you have a garden of sorts. I’m sooo not a gardener, so I’m afraid I don’t have any cool tips! haha

    1. Thank you! I’m trying to become one, so we’ll see how that goes, hahaha. (Hopefully not too many plant fails + will learn a lot along the way…?)

We’ve always had an herb garden! And I do pot tomato plans, always putting basil in with them. This year both are out of control. My husband made pesto last night and yum! We also have cilantro, thyme, oregano, and mint. Peppers are fun to grow too. Good luck!

    1. Ooo, I love the idea of growing the tomato plants with basil! :D Your garden sounds awesome! Hopefully I can get mine up and running! :P
