Blue Oak Trail in Briones Regional Park

Welcome to Travel Tuesday! With gas prices at an all-time high (almost $6/gallon :'( ), I’ve been trying to stay local whenever at all possible. I found the Blue Oak Trail somewhat recently and it was only 5-6 minutes away from me!

Blue Oak Trail in Briones Regional Park

Distance: 3.3 miles (loop)
Difficulty: Easy
Elevation: 843 ft
Trailhead Address: 37.93933, -122.10172
Fee: Free!

The lot for the Blue Oak Trail is a tad small but I was there pretty early so there were plenty of spaces left. (If going on a weekend, I’d definitely go earlier rather than later!)

There was a fair amount of shade but still some exposed areas so make sure you wear sun protection! The incline is also pretty gradual, so it definitely felt very doable.

Briones Regional Park is close to Lafayette, Walnut Creek, Pleasant Hill, Concord, and Martinez. It sits on >6000 acres and is a great place for hiking, running, and horseback riding.

I went several weeks ago when wildflowers weren’t quite blooming yet, but hoping to go back soon to catch the last of it!

AllTrails says this is moderately trafficked, but I think it’s very dependent on time of day. I only saw 3 people throughout 95% of it on a Saturday morning (~8am), but at around 9am when I was getting ready to leave, I definitely came across more people starting their hikes. (Dogs are allowed but required to be leashed!)

    Beautiful! Thanks for sharing!

    1. Thank you for reading! So glad that we got to spend some time together! Hopefully will be able to plan another visit soon-ish! <3!!

  1. What a lovely spot to have so close to home!! Briones Regional Park is looovely – especially with those gorgeous trees. What kind of wildflowers will be in bloom now?

Gas is pretty pricey for us too this year…although I am still tempted to go on a road trip later this summer!

    1. That is a great question, haha. I’m not so good at identifying different plants/flowers (hoping to get better at it!) — I’ll have to go back soon to see what’s blooming in early summer! :]

Youā€™re my hero out hiking at 8am on a Saturday. My ultimate goal in life is to become an early riser. I think I need 500 hours of sleep per night and waking up before 5am on the weekdays is not fun for me. So I try to make up for it on the weekends which I know isnā€™t really possible.

Anywayā€¦enough about my sleep schedule because this hike looks really nice! Those green slopey hills look beautiful. And horseback riding in this area would be so fun. When I visit, letā€™s do that!šŸ˜‰

I love all your hiking posts! Hoping I can convince my brother to go for a hike next month when weā€™re in NH.

    1. haha, I couldn’t sleep very well the night before so I figured I might as well just get up and do something. I am in general a terrrrrible morning person but have been trying to get myself to wake up at a more consistent hour. (My goal is to work out before going to work because motivation/energy is always so lacking by the end of the work day. :[ )

Absolutelyyyy! That’d be super fun! :]

I hope he’ll go with you! If not and you ever come out here (there are lots of books based on California, righttt? :D :D :D ), we can goooo!
