Stay Aware with Aftershokz Trekz Titanium

Can you believe it’s already September?! Next monthĀ is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, so Aftershokz and Fit ApproachĀ will be hosting a month-long instagram challengeĀ to coincide with it! (Stay tuned for further details!)

I wrote about breast cancer for a Medical Mondays post last year, and come October, I’ll be rolling out with another one to go along with it!

I also have something new to share with you that I sneak-previewed on instagram yesterday evening!

disclaimer

If you’ve ever been to the doctor’s office and they happened to put a tuning fork against your mastoid bone and asked you to tell them when you no longer heard it, that’s called the Rinne test, and it basically testsĀ the air conduction vs. bone conduction to determine if you have normal hearing. (Normal would be if air conduction was greater, aka you could still hear the tuning fork next to your outer ear after you could no longer hear it when it was held against the mastoid bone.)

FYI, that actually has nothing to do with the rest of this post. It’s just the first thing I think of when I hear the words, “bone conduction.”

The muffin doesn’t care about bone conduction, but she did agree to model them for me!

I’ve personally never been a fan of earbuds because I hate putting anything into my ears. (The only time I voluntarilyĀ wear them =Ā if I’m out in public and don’t want to be bothered by random people on the street.) Otherwise, earbuds irritates my ears a whole lot.

1 in 5 teens has some form of hearing loss–that’s a rate ~30% higher than it was in the 1980’s and 1990’s, and there might be some correlation of that with the increase in the use of earphones/earbuds.

I have a tendency to listen to everything at super low volumes–when I play music in my car, it rarely increases past 5. (I’d like to preserve my hearing because music is a huge part of my life and I’d also like to keep my perfect pitch–it came in handy after I got my ocarina when I was playing Zelda on N64 this weekend!)

Case in point, these headphones are my favorite thing ever. MyĀ AftershokzĀ Trekz Titanium headphones transmit audio using a pair of transducers that hang out on/near your cheekbones, so they leave your ears uncovered and canals unblocked, which helps to promote safety, as it won’t impede on your situational awareness.

  • Coated to repel sweat + moisture (not waterproof though, so don’t submerge them in water!)
  • Can be worn with protective helmets, glasses or sunglasses
  • Technically* legal to drive with them on, as they aren’t blocking the ears in any way
*Open ear headphones aren’t recognized by current laws yet, so this is not a guarantee.
  • Can be used as a headset for communication or used to make/take calls when paired with a smartphone or Bluetooth-enabled device

I actually have both the Bluez 2S and the Trekz Titanium and both are awesome, but I do have a slight lean toward the Trekz Titanium because they’re more lightweight and flexible.

I walk to and from work almost every day, sometimes not during the best of hours (e.g. 12-4 a.m.), so before, I never listened to music or talked on the phone on my way home because it’d impede on my ability to potentially hear someone coming up behind me. These have pretty much solved it for me, so now I can talkĀ with my family/friends via phone calls, listen to music, orrr play Pokemon Go without impeding on my situational awareness! ;P

Other awesomeness? The rotation I just started is 45 minutes away (so no more walking to work for the next 2 months :[ ), and these make it possible for me to have the GPS going while still listening to music or catching up on life with friends!

  1. These are so cool! I actually never use headphones/earbuds so I don’t even have a preference, haha! I do have tiny ears though so they always have to be small or I get a headache!

    1. Augh! I have that problem too, hahaha. Tis probably why I’m such a fan of these–the size of my ears doesn’t affect em’ at all! :P

  2. I have yellow ones…I soo wish I had the pink, they are too cute! These headphones have changed my life! Awesome that Aftershokz is giving to Breast Cancer awareness.

    1. hehehe, blue is my favorite color, so I kinda want the blue ones too! The pink is super cute and I love that they’re supporting such a great cause as well!

  3. I’ve never tried these earphones! So many people are transitioning away from corded headphones :)

    1. I have a tendency to get tangled, so I’m definitely liking this cordless variety! :P

  4. AMAZING!

seriously I’ve been looking for a pair of cordless (esp. after apple’s new announcement, sigh)

I blew out my ear drum by mistake in mid may. I had been on a client call and had my laptop volume turned up… then I went back to my desk, plugged in my headphones and found a song on youtube I wanted to listen to…

I had forgotten to turn the sound down, and while the song would have had a slow fade in, the advertisement proceeding it did NOT

1 second of sound and the hearing in my left ear was impaired for THREE MONTHS. luckily it was a kind of whistling when it was really quiet and nothing else, it’s since fixed itself but boy oh boy could these headphones help me..

    1. Ughhhh, I’m with you on Apple’s announcement. I think I may have to switch off to Android (at long last?) because the changes they keep making kinda piss me off, haha. Sigh.

I’m so sorry about your ear! ;_; That’s legit one of my worst nightmares–I’m reallyreally glad that it fixed itself though! *-* Thank you, human body!

  5. I have to have earbuds that loop around my ears, for some reason nothing stays in them without that. So these even though I have never tried something that goes around the back of my head, would probably work fabulously for me.
I just bought a pair a few months back, oddly I go through headphones frequently. I have a habit of leaving them out or dropping them and breaking them, LOL

    1. Noooo! I’m so scared that I’m going to trip and smash them over something, haha. (I’m also somewhat of a klutz.) It’d be a real tragedy because I really like these headphones a lot! *-*

  6. It seems like everyone has these now! FOMO

  8. THOSE babies do NOT look like they’re going ANYWHERE!! There is nothing I hate more than when my head phones get caught on something and get YANKED out of my ears!

    1. Forreals! I always hated that too, and I love that these don’t go anywhere! <3

  9. Earbuds. But I usually only wear them when I’m lifting, not when I’m running, or when I’m putting together a playlist at home and the kids are sleeping. Ha!

    1. haha, makes sense! I used to love listening to music when I was lifting but my earbuds would always get tangled up and I also just really don’t like putting stuff in my ears, so this is a perfect alternative! <3

  10. I am in LOVE with my Aftershokz headphone! I feel so much safer running now because I can enjoy my music, but also hear everything around me :-)

    1. Agreed! I might finally actually start running at the park near my place! :]!

  11. These headphones sound great! I really need to switch, too! Love the kitty modeling them:)
