Pizza Bread Bowl

Welcome to Foodie Friday! I’m linking up with Annmarie from the Fit Foodie Mama, Esther from Chocolate Runner Girl + Jess from Hello To Fit to create awesome healthy recipes each week! This week’s theme = Pinterest Curiosities!

Remember wayyy back in the day when I made a pizza cake for Friendsgiving? (A Tikka Masala Pizza Cake, to be exact!) Well, I’m at it again, but this time, it’s in the form of a Pizza Bread Bowl.

I saw this lovely goodness of imgur (I know it’s not the same as pinterest, but let’s face it, it’s probably on pinterest too!) and decided we had to make our own. (This was back when I was still bumming on Sean’s floor during my last rotation in medical school.)

We had a lot of fun during that month, including conversations like these when Mike came by to visit:

M: We’ve got a harem of chicks!
M’s dad:Really?
M: Yeah! (hands phone to me)
F: Hi!
M’s dad: Oh! You do have a girl over!
M: Yeah!
M’s dad: But only one?
F: I’m cool enough to be multiple chicks!
M: We have more than one!
F (falsetto): Hello!
M’s dad: Who’s that?
F (falsetto): My name’s Stephanie!
M’s dad: You sound like a little kid!
F (falsetto): I’m offended. :[
M: I need to go play Call of Duty now. Bye dad! (hangs up) Thanks, Farrah!

M: Do you guys have another mattress?
S: Not exactly, unless you’d like to share with one of us.
M: Can we push them all together? It’ll be like having a sleepover! …I realize we’re not in high school anymore, but still! I sleep shirtless and I like to be little spoon. That’s non-negotiable.

Can you guess what we stuffed in here!?!?

Sean is a big fan of Newman’s Own’s Sockarooni Pasta Sauce since it has tomato puree, diced tomatoes, green + red bell peppers, mushrooms, salt, cane sugar, extra virgin olive oil, spices, and dried garlic. (Twas a good choice. That sauce is amazing.) Plus, the company helps out a lot of different charities, so what’s not to like!?

This recipe is super super versatile (it’s pizza, after all), so go to town with whatever toppings you like! Sean didn’t like pineapples (…), so I didn’t add those in here, but ah, these were absolutely delicious!

…Just don’t be surprised if you fall into a food coma immediately afterward.

  6. This looks amazing! My favorite pizza toppings are onion, bacon, and pineapple. I have yet to find someone who likes this combo as much as me!

    1. I can’t eat bacon (I usually swap it out for chicken), or those would be my favorites right there!

  7. This recipe is so cool! I love pizza, and can honestly can say I haven’t ever had anything in a bread bowl, but it sounds delish! I am going to have to give this a try!!

    1. Aww, I’m sorry! I am way too lazy to make the bread from scratch (we were also too hungry, haha). I put my friend in charge of buying the bread, so he came back from Kroger with 2 small loaves of their sourdough boule bread, but you can use any kind you like as long as it’s big enough to be hollowed out in the inside for goodies!

  9. OMG YUM! Sounds so good!

    1. Thanks, Lora! It was super tasty! <3
