Old Man of Storr and Kilt Rock

Welcome to Travel Tuesdays! I’m going to continue with my Scotland “tour” of sorts and take you through the Old Man of Storr and Kilt Rock today!

Old Man of Storr and Kilt Rock

Old Man of Storr

The “Old Man” of Storr is a large rock that’s part of the Trottermish ridge in the Isle of Skye. It was created by a ginormous landslide and covers a distance of 3.8km (~2.36 miles).Ā If you’ve seen Prometheus (2012), it might look familiar to you since it’s pictured in the opening scenes!

“Storr” is Norse in origin and is thought to mean “Great Man”–one of the legends is that the Old Man of Storr was a giant who lived in Trotternish and when he died, he was buried with his finger sticking out, creating the ridges of the mountains (with theĀ ~50m lone pinnacle as his thumb).

Sadly, I can’t tell you about the walk because I only viewed this from afar! I’d love to go back to Scotland someday (specifically the Isle of Skye), so if I ever go back, I’ll be sure to update this with the hike! :P

Kilt Rock

Given all the waterfalls you’ve seen me visit and write about, I’m going to assume that by now, you know that I love waterfalls. :P

Our tour guide saw me stalking some sheep from afar for photos and promised to bring us to see a Scottish cow (or as I like to call em’, scruffy cows–they’re the cutest! <3)!

There’s also the Lealt Waterfall nearby that’sĀ located in the Isle of Skye in Scotland about 7km south of Culnacnoc along A855, and aĀ small parking area nearby where you can park for free.Ā There’s also a viewing platform where you can get closer for a panoramic view over the cliffs and the ocean!

  • Have you ever been hiking in Scotland? I’d love to go back someday to do that!
