2016 Goals #BehindTheBlogger

Dear 2016 Me,

Your 2015 word was “perseverance,” and I feel like it worked out really well, so much so that it’s stayin’ this year as well! We’ve gone over the progress you made on last year’s goals, so now it’s time to focus on this year!

I’m a fan of focusing on the good in the world, so this year is gonna be your year! There are a bunch of reasons for this, but first and foremost, it’s because you only have about 5 months left of being a student!Ā You’re supposed to graduate 21st grade this year!!!

2016goals

There’s some overlap here with your 101 in 1001, but since both very much pertain to your life…so be it!

Life

  • Match into a residency program that I adore.
  • Graduate from medical school.
  • Go to Hawai’i?!? Or some kind of trip with friends right before or right after graduation!?
  • Be more present.
  • Declutter my life.
  • Start chipping away at my student loans.

Fitness/Health

  • Establish a more regular workout schedule/routine, especially with regards to strength training!
  • Continue cooking + prepping most of your own meals to save money + eat healthier!
  • Keep dance and BJJ in your life in some way, shape or form.
  • Devote 10 minutes per day to stretching + improving flexibility.
  • Drink enough water in a day.
  • Cut down body fat percentage down by 4-6%.

Blogging

  • Continue blogging and keep that somewhat-of-a-structured-blogging-schedule going!. (I’m a little worried that I won’t be able to keep this blog going in intern year of residency, but I’m going to try!)
  • Continue kicking yourself out of your comfort zone + pushing your boundaries! (It’ll help you with that first blogging goal! ;P)
  • Improve photography.
  • Along those lines, getting this photography set would be kinda awesome!
  • Fix up old entries.
  • 10k+ total followers across my blog + social media channels would be pretty sweet!

I’d also really like you to continue living your life’s philosophies–I know it might not always be easy, but just think about how much good it’s done you over the past couple years (especially last year)! :]

  • Cherish the people you love and care about.
  • Always be kinder than you feel.
  • Find the silver linings.
  • Don’t waste time stressing about the things that you can’t change.
  • Continue to strive to improve yourself every day.

And last, but not least…

yoursparkle

  • Do you make resolutions/goals?
  • What do you hope to accomplish this year?
  • Do you have any philosophies in life?

  1. Well hurrah for sparkle! :) And graduating 21st grade must be quite exciting, indeed! 2016 feels so up in the air for me right now, I feel a little bit unable to make plans due to things being not in my control at all, but the overall theme for my year is to be creativity, I’ve decided, since that’s something that previous years have been somewhat lacking. To that end, I invested in embroidery material, I got a coloring book, and I started a youtube channel. So I think as far as creativity goes, I’m off to a good start, now I just have to keep it up!

    1. hehehe, right?! (I said this to someone in Kentucky and he said something along the lines of, “Well, I wouldn’t go THAT far, but thank you.”)

I feel ya on things not really being in control, but that’s awesome that you’re expanding on creativity! I got a coloring book from my friend for Christmas, so I’m excited to start mine (maybe after this rotation because I have almost zero free time right now ._.). I think it’s awesome that you started a youtube channel–you’re off to an awesome start! :D

  2. Yes I do set myself goals, but for the most part I don’t share them. However, we do have some similar / identical ones. No, not the medical school graduation and sadly not the Hawaii one either ;-)

Wishing you good luck in reaching all of yours Farrah :)

    1. That’s completely understandable! They’re your goals, so you should get to enact em’ however you want to! I don’t know if Hawai’i will get to happen, but my limbs are definitely crossed for that!

      Thanks so much, Alex! <3

  3. Farrah I have no doubt you will see all of your goals come true. By following along {for some time now}, I see a very enthusiastic and goal driven gal. We are hoping to get to Hawaii this summer :)

    1. Thanks so much, Lynda! :D I’ll do my best to make em’ happen! I hope we both get to go to Hawai’i this year! :]

  4. Student loans are awful. I am so close to having one paid off, then I’ll need to focus on the other. Also, why is it so dang hard to drink enough water every day? That’s something I’m working on too.

    1. Agreeeed. ;_; I don’t like looking at how much I owe, but I”m thinking I’m probably going to try to work as hard as humanly possible after I graduate/finish residency so that I can clear them all a couple years after I graduate! *-*

Dragging around a water bottle has been making it slightly easier for me on the drinking water thing!

  5. These are great resolutions Farrah! You can definitely achieve anything, you are so talented! I’m really going to focus on growing my blogs following this year too! <3

    1. Thanks, Harriet! I really hope I’ll be able to! :] I have no doubt that your blog’s followings are gonna grow–your posts are so beautiful (and ahhh, that food looks so delicious!)! <3

  6. I would also love to declutter my life.
There are some great options for paying off student loans that take into account your pay scale, and that is critical when you are on a resident’s salary. TRUST ME.

    1. It’s sadly taken a backseat to life at the moment, but sometime this year, I really hope to be able to!

Hooray! I will definitely look for em’! *-* Hell knows I need as much help as I can get, hahaha.

  7. I wish you luck with your goals! Five months will fly by so fast, and then you will miss being a student :) That photo set is absolutely awesome. I think I will order it!

    1. Agreed! Everyone’s telling me that this time will pass by quickly, and it honestly is–it’s kinda scary!

I need to get it once I’m in a place for more than a couple months! <3

  8. Print these lists out and stick them on your fridge lady! So then you can CROSS THEM OFF when you accomplish them! :P

LOVE LOVE crossing things off my list!

    1. Thanks, Julie! <3 I really hope I'll get to! It kinda depends on what residency I end up matching into and when it starts!

  10. Awesome goals, and so well thought out in each category. Other than running the NYC marathon mine are so broad and I think being more concrete could probably help with actually achieving them…then again who knows, 2015 ended pretty well without having had too firm an idea!

    1. Sounds like you’ll be just fine for 2016 too! :]! Part of why I like writing em’ down is really just so I can cross em off and feel accomplished, hahaha. :P

  11. Go get ’em, Farrah! I’m so excited for you to be graduating your 21st year of school soon! One of my goals for this year is to take a spontaneous trip with Wade. We are not great at spontaneity when it comes to bigger plans so we are jumping ship this time and taking a trip to Puerto Rico! Just have to book our plane tickets when we see a good deal. I can’t wait!

    1. Ooo, that sounds like so much fun! I really want to travel and go on adventures too! *-* Someday… (I feel ya on the non-spontaneity–it can be so hard sometimes, but I can’t wait to hear about your adventures in Puerto Rico! :]!

  12. Love these goals, especially the fitness and the blogging ones. Best of luck in achieving them!

    1. Thanks so much, Kristy! <3! I really hope I'll be able to too! It might be a little less in intern year since I hear it's pretty insanely rough, but I may be able to write more to schedule into the future on my outpatient rotations, as I've been doing now! :P

Here's to hoping! If it gets to happen, I am so writing about it! :D

  14. awesome goals Farrah! I know you’ll definitely do some cool things this year! Hope you have an amazing grad trip! ā™„

  16. I made some goals for this year, but I think it’s more a bucket list! I’m not sure how many of those I will be able to achieve but it’s the effort… right? You are such a superwoman, I can’t imagine doing a medical internship as well as blogging! And thank you for the reminder that it’s important to challenge ourselves and step out of our comfort zone. Happy new year, Farrah! <3

    1. I have an ongoing bucket list too! :D It’s nice to have things to strive for, and I’m all about the effort points! (I usually set way more goals than is actually realistic to achieve, haha. :] ) I don’t know that I’ll be able to keep this up during residency, but I’m definitely hoping to!

      Happy new year! <3!
