Ultimate Coffee Date: September 2023

Welcome to another Ultimate Coffee Date! September is already upon us!

Ultimate Coffee Date: September 2023

If we were having coffee/tea today, I’d tell you that…I’m going camping (more like glamping) later this year and I’m thinking of bringing Tofu with me! We’ll be doing some trial runs in the backyard over the coming weeks just to see if there are any issues that arise, but hopefully all will go well!

I came across this review for a dog harness and laughed a little too hard at it…

He’s also not a fan of being in the car, but I’m hoping that if I take him for more hikes and other positive/fun things, he won’t associate every car ride with going to the vet + maybeee eventually he’ll stop hating them? Fingers crossed!

If we were having coffee/tea today, I’d tell you that…we came back from NJ last weekend for another friend’s wedding. There was so much good food to be had…

Korean BBQ! <3

This was the 4th wedding this year, so we’re a little wedding-ed out, but I don’t think I have any other friends who are planning to get married anytime soon so we’re good for now, haha.

If we were having coffee/tea today, I’d tell you that…I’ve been trying to slowly add in all the things I used to do pre-Covid but it’s been hard to find enough hours (or even minutes) in the day/week to do so. (To be fair, what I want to get back to is work 5 days/week, lifting 3x/week, Brazilian jiu-jitsu 3x/week, Polynesian dance twice a week, and pole/lyra/silks 1-2x/week, plus daily walks with Tofu + hiking/climbing 1-2x/month…)

In all likelihood, I think I’m just deconditioned and need to take adding things back in more slowly, haha. I’m trying to be patient (and realistic…)!

Chirashi bowl from dinner with a friend a couple weeks ago! *-*

If we were having coffee/tea today, I’d tell you that…I’d tell you that I was lying in bed minding my own business (playing a game on my Switch) when I saw something descend from the ceiling out of the corner of my eye. Twas a ginormous spider with a body about the size of my thumb and very long legs.

I’m typically not afraid of bugs (I’m the one that my coworkers/staff call when a spider-rescue is needed!). …But I’m definitely not comfortable with them appearing outta nowhere onto my bed. I panicked and blew at it and it immediately ascended back onto the ceiling fan. I was going to grab something to capture it to take it outside but I lost track of it and now it’s…somewhere. :[

End-of-Month Recap

  • I’ve been kinda bad about writing lately… Here’s a straggler post on Tumalo Falls from my 2020 Pacific Northwest road trip!
  • I started writing about more of our Virginia trip from…May of last year. (It feels like so, so much longer than that…)  Check out the Stony Man Trail in Shenandoah National Park!

  • What do you do for fun these days?
  • Have you ever gone camping with your dog? If you have any tips, let me know!
  • Would you be able to sleep if you knew there was a giant spider loose somewhere in your room?

  1. Well, I don’t have a dog and I don’t really like camping. So I’m definitely no help here (although “glamping” sounds like it could be up my alley…)
You idea schedule does sound a tad busy! If you can fit all that in, I want to hear about it. I also have trouble fitting in everything I want to do, and I’m not quite as ambitious as you are.
That dog harness review (and photo) is pretty funny.

    1. haha, all good! I’ve mostly only been camping, so this’ll be an interesting twist. (But maybe better for easing Tofu into the idea of camping? We’ll see!)

I’ll let you know…I’m definitely struggling, but I think it’s because I’m beating myself up about not adding it all back at once, haha. Slow and steady…

  2. Well I love that your dog’s name is tofu! I am so not a camping or glamming girl but I can’t wait to read about your experience. I kind of need a bathroom and room service LOL and AC!

    1. He’s all white so I like referring to him as a giant block of tofu. <3

We're planning on going in early November, so if it does end up happening, I'll write about it in December's coffee date! :]

  3. Not a camper either, by any means, LOL! I think it’s pretty normal for most dogs to not like their vet visits. Mine gets all excited to go for a car ride, then as soon as he sees me pull into the vet’s parking lot, he climbs into the very back of the cargo area of my SUV.

    1. haha, all good! :P I’ve been looking at articles online and talking to my friends who either have dogs or dog training experience for tips.

Tofu gets super anxious whenever he has to get in the car for any reason so I’m hoping the positive experiences will eventually get him to the point where he at least enjoys the ride — fingers crossed!

  4. Our dog loves a good hike but he too is very anxious in the car so we limit our trips with him. That harness review is hilarious! It must be the season for ginormous spiders. We just had one like that at work!

    1. It made me laugh so hard! :P

It sounds like it! I still haven’t located said spider…

    Sounds like great fun!

    1. All the food was awesome! *-*!!

  5. I’m not a camper but I love the idea of bringing your dog. Mine loves to hike. By the way, I love your dog’s name :)

Looking forward to hearing how the glamping goes!

    1. hehe, thank you! :D I seem to be following a food theme with my pets’ names…

It turns out we may be actual-camping after all! The glamping place wanted almost $300 for 3 nights so we felt that was a tad too steep.

  6. It is really hard to do everything, and you have a really demanding job on top of that!

I really don’t think Bandit would’ve been a good camper — he was horrible in a hotel room, but he’s usually okay with AirBnBs. He is actually quite good in the car (except for random throwing up).

We didn’t get to Stony Man Trail at SNP, although we went looking for it. We did find some other trails we enjoyed nearby! So glad we had the chance to go last year. It’s magical, isn’t it?

    1. Thanks! :( I keep trying to remind myself that, but ahh, I still keep trying/wanting to do everything, haha.

Aww, yeah–I’m not sure how Tofu would do in a hotel. He gets really anxious in the car and throws up for longer-than-10-minute car rides. :[

I’m glad you got to go last year–it’s such a beautiful park! <3

  7. Scooby doesn’t like car rides (he’s stressed) but he will jump in the car no problem. I bet Tofu would love camplng.

Thanks for joining us for coffee!

    1. I’m hoping to get Tofu to that stage sommeeeeeday! :]

  8. I read your post early in the morning and for a bit I was thinking that you were talking about the food! Haha! Then I saw the picture and realized you meant your dog. I have two cats and they don’t like car rides because they know they are going to the vet. It is definitely hard to do the things we used to do pre-covid. Times and things have changed.

    1. haha, sorry! An easy mistake. :P Muffin is a lot chiller about car rides and actually seems to enjoy em’ quite a bit (she loves watching trucks driving by) — I’m hoping to get Tofu to that point someday!!

They definitely have! It’ll probably take a while for me to fully adjust, haha, but bit by bit!
