If we were having coffee/tea today, I’d…tell you that one of my patients made me homemade macarons! It was the sweetest surprise ever.  <3 Ultimate Coffee Date: September 2020 | fairyburger.com

The car ride back was a little rough so some of em’ got a little smushed/knocked around! :[ They were super tasty though. <3 <3

If we were having coffee/tea today, I’d…tell you that now that I’m not moving around every couple weeks/months and will basically be kindasorta in the same place for the foreseeable future, I’ve been trying to switch over to zero (or at least less) waste!

Unrelated to the above, but we recently got Ninja + Muffin giant catnip fishies! Ninja is pictured here + Muffin is pictured at the top of this post! :]

I’ll probably write a post soon-ish about the things I’ve switched over to so far! In the meantime though, does anyone here compost and if so, any tips for me? I learned how to back when I was volunteering at a homeless shelter back in high school, but…that was a rather long time ago. (I’ve been reading a bunch of articles lately, but personal experience/tips would be appreciated too! :] )

If we were having coffee/tea today, I’d…tell you that due to my lack of out-of-the-house extra-curriculars lately (e.g. pole, aerial silks/lyra, BJJ, Polynesian dancing), I’d been turning to my more introverted hobbies + also hiking, but due to the fires everywhere (we were in the yellow zone for potential evacuation for several days) and terrible air quality, I’ve mainly been staying home. I did get to do another Yelp Elite event where I got to pick up a free pizza from Red Tomato Pizza House! :]

This is their California Garlic Chicken Pizza! *-*

  1. I tried composting kitchen waste a few years ago but it was kind of a mess…my husband put the kibosh on the whole thing, lol. What’s really tough now is that the grocery stores here won’t let you use your own bags–I have so much plastic. Ugh. I take them to be recycled, but I wonder, does it really get recycled?

That is so nice of your patient to make macarons!

    1. I feel ya–it can definitely get messy so I’m trying to see what the least messy way to do it would be. :P Agreed on all the plastic. We’ve used them as trashcan liners all our lives but there are so many! :(

      She’s the sweetest! <3

  3. We tried composting when we first moved into our house…but as Wendy said, it was really messy and we didn’t stick with it for too long.

Macaroons are not easy to make! What a nice gift!

    1. Darn, that’s what I’ve been hearing/reading for some–maybe I can do something on a smaller-ish scale and it won’t be too bad!

Forreals! I’ve never tried just because it’s so complicated! :o

  4. Your kitties and their catnip fishes are so cute!

Good for you for attempting zero waste. My 2 oldest sons and their families do it and both of them compost. Oldest also has chickens, which are much better than a garbage disposal. They turn kitchen waste into eggs!

    1. hehehe, the fish is almost as big as one of them! :P

That’s awesome! <3 I would so love to have chickens but I'm pretty sure my parents would never agree to this. Maybe someday after I move out–they're the best at "waste" disposal! :P

  5. That is so sweet that your patients made you macarons they look great. What a nice sentiment. I would be all over that pizza too. Stay well and happy! Thanks for linking up

    1. It was so sweet–totally brightened my entire week! :]

We tried composting in the past, but didn’t get much. My husband decided to try again this year and pretty much the same results. He’s been thinking of building a second one so we can start a new batch & use the old batch.

The wildfires must be terrible! We’ve been doing some easy hikes (old dogs!) & more walking, going to scenic places. Luckily my husband loves to take photos, even though hes not so much into moving.

Those macarons look amazing! How sweet, literally.

    1. That sounds like a good way to go with it!

They’re definitely not ideal. :( The potential evacuation warning has been lifted but the air quality is still pretty terrible right now. I’m all about the hikes when possible though!

      Agreed! <3

  6. Ooooh the macarons look fabulous! I’ve never had homemade ones. What a thoughtful gift. My daughter composted at home as part of a Girl Scout project a few years ago, and of course it became my thing to do, but after awhile I lost control of it. Can’t remember what I added to the mix that threw everything off.

    1. It was so sweet of her! :]

That’s really cool! I vaguely remember learning the super-basics of it back when I was volunteering at the shelter, but that one smelled a lot so I don’t think it was done optimally, haha. I’ll keep reading up more on it–hopefully will make some progress soon! :P

  7. Oh, homemade baked goods are the best gifts, and those are so pretty – even after the car ride mangling. ;-)

I do not have the time or energy to compost, and I know my husband wouldn’t help. I can’t even get him to break his paper towel habit! On the other hand, it is hard to see all the additional use of disposal products during the pandemic. Safety first, but triple wrapping take-out food in cellophane isn’t keeping anyone safe!

Thanks for stopping by for cofffee!

    1. haha, right? <3!

Yeah, that makes it really hard when the whole family isn't on board. :( I want to try it but my family doesn't really want to put in the effort for it, so it'll either be all me orrr I wait til I move out. I'll keep learning more about it for now though! It's been making me so sad to see all the waste everywhere!

      Thanks for hosting! :]

  8. My mom and dad composted for years and dad would later add the compost to the garden soil. Now the garden has the most amazing soil! Mom stopped composting after the bear population exploded in her area. She’s concerned that the food will attract bears to her backyard.

Those macaroons look delicious! How nice of your patient to bring them to you.

    1. That’s so cool! That’s what I’d love to do but I wanna make sure I do it right so I don’t attract critters, haha. Bears would definitely be a valid concern! :/
