Ultimate Coffee Date: July 2023

Welcome to another Ultimate Coffee Date! Have you been melting where you are?

Ultimate Coffee Date: July 2023

If we were having coffee/tea today, I’d ask if…you’ve ever lost something for a super long time, resigned yourself to the fact that you’d never see it again, and then randomly found it again.

I’ve complained a couple times about the New Jersey moving company losing my entire cookbook collection (as well as my ice cream maker, the cutest crock pot ever, my exercise biology notes + sheet music from when I used to sing with the Greenbrier Valley Chorale)…

But! My dad randomly lifted a flap in the garage the other day to reveal a shelf that I’d previously always thought was just a wall. …And there sat 4 moving boxes that I haven’t laid eyes on since June of 2019. I’ve recovered everything other than the crockpot!!! :O!!!

This is just a small fraction of my long-missing collection (interspersed with some of my newer additions)!

If we were having coffee/tea today, I’d tell you that…I recently “built” Muffin a little window perch (affiliate link!) so she can hang out and watch cars pass by (a favorite pastime of hers when she’s in the car with me).

We initially bribed her with snacks to get her to check it out and now she hangs out on it on her own!

If we were having coffee/tea today, I’d tell you that…we changed up our most recent “Fat Girl Wednesday’s” recently to (a) go to the county fair and (b) grab food to eat outside + walk around since the weather’s been pretty nice.

Look at this adorable bunny!! <3

I also really enjoyed this highly accurate real vs stuffed animal comparison.

End-of-Month Recap

  • Son Doong Cave Experience in Phong Nha National Park
Only 1000 visitors are allowed through Son Doong each year via Oxalis Adventure! We got to be the 54th group this year to experience camping in it! :]
  • 2 Days in Hanoi
If you’re planning a trip to Vietnam sometime and will be staying in Hanoi, check out this guide!
  • Halong Wonder Bay Cruise
It’d be difficult to visit Vietnam without visiting Halong Bay — this cruise brought us through a bunch of cool places for a super reasonable price!
  • Kong Collapse Top Adventure
Ever been abseiling? I went for the first time on this caving/camping/abseiling adventure tour!

  • If you have pets + live in the U.S., how did they fare over July 4th? Muffin was fine, but Tofu was super anxious throughout the day and tired himself out with worrying. He eventually nodded off but tried hard not to because he was worried the sky would fall down while he was sleeping. :[
  • What have you been up to? Do you have any summer plans?

  1. I am super glad you found your Cookbooks! That’s so exciting!

    1. Thank youuuu! Me too! I never thought I’d see them again!!

  2. How exciting that you found your long lost box!
I have one dog that sat on our back deck with me and watched the fireworks and one dog that was quite antsy. I wonder if she’ll ever get use to it?
    Have a good weekend. ~M

    1. Forreal! I was so surprised/happy! :D

Aww, I hope I’ll get Tofu to that point someday too!

I hope you had a great weekend too!

  3. That’s amazing that you found your boxes!! I love when I find long-lost items.

Cocoa wasn’t bothered at all by the fireworks–she never has been, but especially now because her hearing is poor. I guess that’s a mixed blessing?

    1. Me too! It’s such an unexpected joy!

Aww, sorry to hear that her hearing isn’t where it used to be, but that’s good that it didn’t bother her!

  4. Oh wow that’s crazy that you found all of your boxes after 4 years! How much of those things have you already replaced? Thanks for catching up over coffee

    1. I didn’t think I’d ever see em’ again! I hadn’t actually replaced anything other than the crockpot (got a free one off a buy nothing group) + that’s the only thing I haven’t recovered from the move!

  5. Nice find on all those lost boxes! Our dog, Max. does not like any of the 4th of July stuff. It’s tough to even get him to go outside to do his business. I was gone for most of the day, so I left the radio on (with the volume turned up high) to hopefully drown out some of the outside noise.

    1. Thanks! I was so happy. :D

That’s a good idea! I was home for most of the day and took him out earlier before the fireworks started, but he definitely was not havin’ it for his usual evening walk.

  6. Oh, poor Tofu! My male dogs have never been bothered by fireworks (but other random sounds, like the beeping of a fire alarm battery) freaked them out. My one female dog would get anxious, but as she got older (and deafer, I guess) they bothered her less.

Things are always disappearing and reappearing (if I’m lucky) here. Which just means I have too much stuff, and that is true! I keep working on it but don’t seem to make a lot of progress.

    1. That’s good that the fireworks don’t bother them! Boo on the other random noises though. :[

I definitely have too much stuff too, but I’ve been working on decluttering/donating, so hopefully it’ll be better eventually (limbs are crossed!).

  7. My cleaning service has a habit of “putting away” anything I leave on the counters in our house. My work credit card went missing for almost 6 months. Luckily I knew it was around and very seldom need the actual card, but it was so frustrating. It eventually turned up at the bottom of a container that I keep my reading glasses in. I went through it because the maids had put so much miscellaneous stuff in that I could find my glasses. So many “lost” items were found!

    Glad you found those boxes!

    1. Ah, my mom has a tendency to do that with me/my brother/his girlfriend’s stuff. I’m glad you eventually found your work credit card (and all the other random “lost” things)!

  8. My son’s cats love looking out the window!

Scooby was stressed when he heard fdireworks and thunder — both of which were in abundance this week. He starts panting and pacing. :-(

Yay on finding your cookbooks! I’ve lost my cooking mojo so let me know if you find that. ;-)

    1. Aww, Tofu was the same. :[ I’m glad there aren’t anymore going on!

hahaha, I also lost mine for a while but the reappearance of my cookbooks may change this for the better! :D

  9. Wait- Muffin ride with you in the car? Happily??? The last time I took my Muffin in the car, it was a nightmare for both of us. Maybe she knew she was going to the vet, ha ha.
That is an amazing story about finding those boxes! But where is your crockpot? Maybe the moving company really did lose that one.

    1. Yeah, she loves looking out the window and watching the trucks go by (I found this out several years back when we were driving my stuff from West Virginia to New Jersey — she’d never seen a truck before and was enthralled, haha. <3 I'm sorry to hear that about your Muffin though! (Tofu in contrast hates being in the car and finds it terrifying.)

I'm trying not to hold out hope, but I would love to find it someday — it was such a cute crockpot!

  10. Oh, muffin and Tofu! The pugs were an angry mess. Of course, our stupid neighborhood has been lighting off explosives day and night for the past week. Enough already!

No major travel, but some nearby local things. It will do for now.

    1. Oh no! I’m so sorry — it’s so hard for them. :[

I hope you have fun at the local things! I’m trying to be better about exploring the area I live in, hehe.

  11. That is great that you found those missing boxes. I love that window perch and wish I could get it for my cats.

    1. It was on sale on amazon for a little over $20 and Muffin seems to really like it! :] Definitely worth it in my book if your cats like to look outside (+ you have a suitable window for it)!

  12. I’m glad you found most of your lost items!
Aw, poor Tofu. I’m glad Muffin did okay. My cat, Charlie, was a little nervous but he did pretty well. I’m ready for people to stop doing fireworks though!!!

    1. Thank you! I was so scared to hope when I first saw those boxes, haha.

I’m glad Charlie did pretty well! Definitely glad that they’re done shooting off fireworks now!

  13. That’s amazing that you found all your boxes after so many years! I loved reading your post. The whole story was really enjoyable.

    1. Thanks! I definitely never thought I’d see em’ again!!

  14. Oh wow I’m glad you found your stuff after so long! That happened to me with a diamond necklace I got in Dubai. I “lost” it for 2 years. I swore it must have fallen off at a birthday dinner we attended at a restaurant. I tore apart my jewelry box and literally cried when it did not turn up. TWO YEARS later there it was. Crazy.
Love Muffin’s perch! Oz is not a fan of fireworks. At all.

    1. Me tooo! I’m so glad you found your necklace again — that’s amazing! <3

Poor Oz. :[ July 4th is always a rough one for so many pets!!
