Ultimate Coffee Date: January 2026

Happy New Year + welcome to the very first Ultimate Coffee Date of 2026! I already had to fix the dates in this post twice, haha.

I don’t usually make resolutions for the new year (I’m more of a 101 in 1001-er), but I do have some goals for this year that may manifest itself into a separate post!)

Ultimate Coffee Date: January 2026

I disappeared from dance for almost 2 months, but popped back in in mid-December and was able to perform at my first corporate show ~1.5 weeks ago!

If we were having coffee/tea today, I’d tell you that…I really like all the round-ups/”wrap ups” that come by at the end of the year! It’s a fun way to look back at the whole year (much as I disliked the year as a whole, there were thankfully some bright spots).

This doesn’t include December’s stats, but I think I’m at a score of 39 now! I need to get back to learning Hawai’ian too…

I’ve been meaning to try to learn watercolor painting, but I keep watching videos but not actually painting. Hopefully that’ll change this year! I also haven’t cooked in an embarrassingly long time, so maybe there’ll be some cooking videos I’ll be watching this year too… (More than likely though, what I plan to do is to dig into my rather extensive cookbook collection, haha.)

My friend has generously been letting me bum off his Spotify Premium account for the past 11 years, but since Spotify unfortunately decided to be on the wrong side of history and run recruitment ads for ICE, these are excerpts of my last Spotify Wrapped.

I definitely went a longggg way down memory lane that day, haha.

If we were having coffee/tea today, I’d tell you that…the last 2 weeks have been roughhhhh. I’m not sure if I ever mentioned here that I stepped into the role of Assistant Chief of Family Medicine a little over a year ago (rather unwillingly, but let’s not get into that, haha).

…Long story short, I’m now in charge of the vacation schedule and felt bad vetoing people’s vacations so I let way too many people out. It’s usually pretty skeleton-crew-y around the holidays but it was even more so, and since this was kinda my doing, I felt bad for everyone left behind, so I’ve been adding almost all the patients requesting same-day visits (for the 8-9 physicians we have out) to my schedule + going through all the absent physicians’ inboxes to clear as many messages as I can.

A bunch of tasty Thai desserts from a local eatery we recently found! :]

My practice buddy (who covers for me when I’m out) sent me a really nice message (“Awesome fearless leader — thank you for taking so many offer ups + I’m grateful for your leadership!”) + my accountability buddies (we round each other up at 7pm to make sure we leave clinic at a semi-reasonable hour) also checked into make sure I wasn’t burning myself out. Twas super sweet of them! :]

It’s also a-okay because at the end of this month, I’ll be peacing out to Thailand for 2 weeks, so it’ll all be worth it! We’ll be spending 1 week on a liveaboard and another week just exploring (I’m hoping to do some more surfing!) Having only ever dived in Monterey, which is beautiful when visibility is there, but only 50.4°F/10.2°C, and Australia in the wintertime (~64°F/18°C), I’m pretty excited about getting to dive in warm water for the first time ever!!

  • Are you learning any languages? (If you’re on Duolingo, lemme know if you wanna be friends!)
  • What’s your favorite genre of music?
  • I moved the My Month Is Booked linkup to the last Monday of each month!
  • I also put together my 2025 reading wrap-up! :] I’m hoping to write here >2x/month this year, but we’ll see whether this actually ends up happening…

  1. Your dance group photo looks like so much fun! Have an amazing time in Thailand-on my travel list! happy new year

    1. Thanks so much! I hope you had a wonderful new year as well! :]

  2. I have been a premium Spotify subscriber for a really long time but I am starting to look for other options, SMH…

It can’t be easy to have to handle so many employees’ vacation time and I’m glad that you received some reassurance and support from your colleagues!

Thailand sounds amazing, have a great time!

    1. Let me know if you find anything! I’m just using YouTube for now.

I’m glad it went well overall, haha. It was a super stressful time!

  3. This wasn’t my favorite year either I have to say. Lots of let’s say challenging moments. I feel like it absolutely only can get better this year! Your upcoming trip sounds super needed and really cool!!

I decided to learn Spanish a couple months ago. I haven’t gone back to Duolingo but maybe I will to keep me going (I’m doing an online refresher right now but I’m not on a particular schedule and need to change that stat!).

I stopped Spotify a while ago – so I don’t even have a wrapped. But yeah, totally agree with you on why you left it. I use Tidal when I do listen to music. My favorite genre is probably 80’s New Wave (still haha) but I’m kind of all of the place a lot of the time.

Hope to keep in better touch this year – really miss my blogging community!

    1. I’d like to hope so as well, although as far as U.S. events go, it unfortunately isn’t looking great. :[

I haven’t heard of Tidal, but will have to look into that!

It’s so nice to have you back! Hope to get to follow along with you on your goals/adventures this year! :]

  4. Wow, how fun to be heading to Thailand. That will be a nice break for sure.

Cool that you were able to participate in that dance performance. That makes me realize I would never guess a performer has a different profession than being in the arts. More assumptions I need to check myself on.

    Happy new year!

    1. Thank you! It was definitely a much-needed break!

hehe, I never thought about it that way! I was in a performance group during residency too and it was a nice way to be able to keep it in my life, but definitely was much harder to find pockets of time to practice back then.

Hope you had a wonderful new year too!

  5. Wow. Thailand. Can’t wait to hear. I bet you have a great time.

It sound like you need it too.

    Big no on Spotify.

    1. Thank you! It was definitely a nice break (was so hard to come back, haha).

    1. Thanks so much! The beach we stayed near unfortunately didn’t end up being the best for surfing, but I did get a lot of diving in! :]

  7. You sound like an amazing boss! I love that you are letting people take their time off. Yes it’s harder on you, but it’s great for morale! You’re playing the long game.
Thailand sounds incredible! Have the best time!
I love that you were able to get right back into dance! That’s amazing!

    1. Aww, thank you! Definitely trying hard but it was roughhh. We had a meeting right before I left for vacation where we basically decided we’ll never be doing that again (lol) and almost everyone’s being quite understanding about it/not blaming me, so hoorayyyy for that! :D

I’m really glad too — it’s been such a nice break to have! :]
