Ultimate Coffee Date: December 2018

Welcome to anotherĀ Ultimate Coffee Date!Ā  Here we are at the very last Ultimate Coffee Date of the year! I hope your year has been treating you well! I’ve been doing some traveling and am currently on vacation (although if you’re reading this the day that I posted it, more than likely, I’m interviewing at another place right now so I’d appreciate good thoughts! :O ), so updating my blog has been kinda sparse lately. (Sorry!)

That said, I don’t have a new recipe for you this week so I’m gonna link up a couple old ones!

Ultimate Coffee Date: December 2018

If we were having coffee/tea today, Iā€™dā€¦tell you that my trip to Hong Kong/China with my parents was a lot of fun–filled with tons of delicious food and good company! This is one of my favorite street snacks!:

I got to see my extended family again (it’s been about 6 years…) and my mom’s friends from when she was in high school/nursing school! I went to Shenzhen for the first time! I’ll have more dedicated travel posts hopefully sometime in the near future, but I’ll just talk about bits and pieces of it here for now. :]

You do a lottttt of walking in Hong Kong (China as well), so I got in a bunch of steps every day, even on days where I was on the lazier side!

This is the first time I’ve ever been to Asia where no one called me fat or “偄åŗ·ē¾Žäø½” (which translates to “healthy beauty” and is their way of nicely saying you’re fat). Someone also told me I was tall, and a few people told me I looked paler. (In case you’re wondering, Asian beauty standards are vastly different from American beauty standards. I generally only fit a size large in Asia because of the 3 B’s–biceps, butt + boobs.)

Our Thanksgiving dinner was at a hotpot buffet! Everything was delicious, except when I asked earlier in the day if it was going to buffet (I wanted to see if I could snack throughout the day while we were out), he said it wouldn’t be even though he wasn’t actually sure if it would be. (…)

…I was very, very full.

On the way back to the US, I had a 3-hour layover in South Korea and came across some hilarious wifi names. (S. cerevisiae is a yeast species that’s used in baking and winemaking/brewing. Y. pestis is a gram negative bacteria that causes the plague.)

If we were having coffee/tea today, Iā€™dā€¦tell you that it’s also been super awesome getting to see my friends and family again! I stopped by at Twirly Girls Pole Fitness to hang out with Bel for the day and got to decorate the tree for her studio! (I don’t remember the last time I decorated a Christmas tree!)

Thanksgiving was great, definitely ate too much at my grandma’s then my parents. No christmas decoration, I usually leave that to my house mate, haha. For a wi-fi name, I was always partial to “white van across the street”

    1. Glad you had a great Thanksgiving! :] And hahaha, that’s defintely a good one! I’ve come across an “It hurts when IP” one that I got a kick out of too! :P

  8. So glad that you had a great trip with family. So important to take time to enjoy with your family, especially this time of year.

  11. We just watched Crazy Rich Asians and I got a little sample of those beauty standards! Your trip looks amazing. I follow a blogger who is living in Hong Kong for her husband’s job. It’s so interesting and beautiful. I”d love to visit.
