Real Life Dinners

Welcome to our weekly Foodie Friday link up! I’m linking up with Annmarie from the Fit Foodie Mama + Esther from Chocolate Runner Girl to create awesome healthy recipes each week! This week’s theme = Salad!

R’member how I said I’d find a way to keep them cookbook reviews coming? Well, I wasn’t kidding! I’m back with another one! (I received this free of charge in exchange for an honest review. As always, ll thoughts + opinions are mine and mine alone!) I don’t have a new recipe for you this week but will be linking up an old[er] one!

Real Life Dinners: Fun, Fresh, Fast Dinners from the Creator of The Chic Site

By Rachel Hollis

Genre: Food/Cooking
Pages: 210

Real Life Dinners is divided into the following chapters:

Table Manners is as the title suggests, and discusses several (14) things that would be good to teach your kids if you happen to have them. Kitchen Essentials lists things that Hollis keeps in her pantry and fridge, and Rach’s Spices includes how to make 4 different spice blends (Fiesta Blend, Southwestern Ranch, Zesty Italian, and Moroccan Seasoning)!

Breakfast For Dinner

You know I love my breakfast recipes! :D… This section includes recipes for Breakfast Pizza, Breakfast Quesadillas, Freeeze-Ahead Breakfast Burritos + Sandwiches (I’ve been meaning to make these for ages!), a ton of different types of toast…

Kid-Friendly Dinners

Homemade Hot Pockets, Biscuit Pizza, Taco Tuesdays, Meatloaf Meatballs, Pineapple Chicken Stir-Fry…you absolutely do not have to be a kid to enjoy these. *-*

Make-Ahead Dinners

I’m all about the meal prep! Hawaiian Chicken, Tex-Mex Fiesta Rice, Ranch Beef Stew, Lemon-Pesto Chicken…

Dinner on the Grill

Now that the weather’s finally more summer-like, I’m looking forward to breaking out my Foreman grill + trying out more grilled recipes! This section includes recipes for Foil-Wrap Fish Bake, Grilled Turkey Burgers with Green Apple and Chutney, Teriyaki Chicken Kebabs, Marinated Flank Steak, Grilled Corn Tostadas with Hummus…

Soup for Dinner

Hooray for soup! There are a couple slow cooker recipes in here (score!) and I’m also looking forward to trying out the Green Chicken Chili, Corn Chowder (my favorite soup! <3), Creamy Basil Tomato, and Spicy Beef Enchilada Soup!

Salad for Dinner

I’ve been meaning to make more salads, so this will definitely be useful! The Cowboy Steak Salad, Zesty Mexican Salad with Chili-Rubbed Salmon, Grilled Lime Chicken Fajita Salad, Tuna Stuffed Avocados (I’ve made something vaguely similar before!), and Loaded Lentil Salad all look amazing!

Sides for Dinner

There are definitely times when I just want to eat a ton of appetizers instead of just one entree. This chapter definitely reinforces that. Garlic-Herb Smashed Potatoes, Street Corn Salad, Balsamic Roasted Carrots with Ricotta, Roasted Ranch Cauliflower, Jalapeño Mashed Potatoes, Crispy Sweet Potato Bake…yes please!

My Favorite Dinners

Butermilk Fried Chicken (I’ve never tried frying chicken! :O!), Avocado Tuna Melt, Turkey Lettuce Wraps, Slow Cooker Barbacoa…what’s not to like?!

Each recipe includes a short intro, the prep time, cook time, serving size, ingredient list, and of course, the instructions! The photos in Real Life Dinners are absolutely gorgeous and make my mouth water. *-* If you’re looking delicious dinner recipe inspiration that isn’t super crazy-complicated, I’d definitely recommend this book! (If you’re vegan/vegetarian, you might want to look elsewhere–this does have vegetarian recipes but a good amount of the 80 recipes do include meat!)

  6. Ooh I am all about quick recipes!!

Our go to quick dinners are usually pasta dishes because I’ll cook the pasta in one pot, stack the steamers with veggies on top and cook the sauce in a second pot and by the time the pasta is cooked, everything is good to go!
