Fun fact (in case you weren’t already aware)! I’m somewhat of a crunchy granola girl in that I’m a big fan of green living. Whenever possible, I try to reduce my carbon footprint by walking/biking/carpooling/using public transportation, recycling/re-purposing items, and making my own products.
Aside from reusable pads and the DivaCup, I also semi-recently made the switch to using reusable cotton rounds instead of cotton balls/swabs! You can find em’ all over etsy and they come in all sorts of fun patterns!
Technically speaking, it really wouldn’t be hard to make em’ on your own…but since I’m in residency and free time is but a figment of my imagination, I found a good deal at Green Little Nest!

I very rarely use makeup, but these come in handy for when I do, and are also great for using facial cleansers/toners! :]

The first time I ever tried making my own hair/skin treatments was at the age of 11–I had a slight mishap with measuring out the extra virgin olive oil and let’s just say that my hair was super soft and smooth, but also somewhat slick for a bit. ._.
Thankfully, I’ve improved since then, and it’s apparently been over a year since I’ve shared a DIY with you (?!), so it’s time to change that, because I recently got my hands on Swanson’s apple cider vinegar! :] It’s certified organic and is unfiltered and unpasteurized, meaning that it still has the “mother” (natural complex of proteins, enzymes, fiber + friendly bacteria).
Apple cider vinegar (ACV) can help to balance the natural pH of the skin It’s also way, way more affordable than most commercial products out there, so if you’ve ever been curious about using it for skin care, it doesn’t get much easier than this tutorial!
ACV also has a bunch of other uses–for instance, in salad dressing, as a fruit fly death lure trap*, hair treatments, all purpose cleaners…
*Since the weather has cooled down considerably, fruit flies haven’t been a problem here, but if they’re annoying you, pour some ACV into a container with a squirt or two of dish soap, give it a little stir, and you will have a fruit fly graveyard in no time! The ACV attracts the flies and the soap forms a film that traps the flies and prevents them from escaping their imminent doom.

You'll Need...
- 1 part apple cider vinegar
- 2 parts filtered water
Directions
- Mix ingredients together and store in a glass or plastic container or spray bottle.
Additional Notes
Add 1-2 drops tea tree oil for an extra boost in remedying acne/blemishes.
You can substitute the filtered water with green tea. (Store it in the refrigerator if you choose this option!)
My skin is more of the normal/dry variety, so I tested this out with 1 part ACV:2 parts filtered water. if you have sensitive skin, increase the water ratio, and if you oily skin, decrease it!
If you’ve never used ACV on your skin before, do a patch test first on a small section of your skin to see how it tolerates it!
