Ultimate Coffee Date: May 2016

This is the last Ultimate Coffee Date before I’m done with school…forever!!! *-* I boarded a plane back to West Virginia a couple weeks ago to complete my very last med school rotation (I have a week left til I’m done!). Someday, I’ll be done with all this time zone-hopping!

If we were having coffee/tea today, Iā€™d tell you thatā€¦Iā€™d tell you that…I’M GOING TO HAWAI’I!!! <3!!! Way, wayyyy back, I shared my hopes for the “ultimate fitness getaway” and it looks like it’s going to get to happen! I haven’t been able to reach Grandmaster Relson Gracie because he’s still in Brazil, but hopefully I’ll be able to catch him while I’m over there!

I’ll super hoping that one of my friends can come along with me, because as much as I’m okay with traveling alone, it’d be even more fun if she could come with me! Hiking adventures, beaches, and outdoor explorations galore! (Plus, not having to befriend random people to go hikingĀ with me might be a safer option. Although it did work out really well in Asheville…)

If we were having coffee/tea today, Iā€™d tell you thatā€¦Iā€™d tell you that I’m currently bumming at my friend Sean’s apartment by way of a mattress on the floor. It’s been nice to have company again, and we’ve been giving each other pep talks every morning to motivate each other to power through the senioritis that has settled in!

We’ve been trying to eat everything we own, so our dinners have been somewhat creative–for instance, this fancy-schmancy crackers + cheese + salsa + turkey pepperoni combination!

Pinkies up for extra hoity-toitiness!

S: Permission to brush my teeth, your Fongfulness?
F: No!
S: :[
F: Alright fine, I guess hygiene is important for you.
S: Thank you so much, your Fongfulness!
F: I’m so nice!
S: You’re the kindest, most benevolent and most gentle Fong I have ever known.

S: Actually, we can just sit on my bed.
M: Farrah, will you get on here with us? Just sit between us and chaperone.

S:Ā Did you ever play Age of Empires?
M:Ā I think I had a girlfriend by that time.

If we were having coffee/tea today, Iā€™d tell you thatā€¦it was my birthday about two weeks ago!

Sean and I went out to La Famiglia for dinner to celebrate both our birthdays–his isn’t for another 2 months or so, but since we won’t be in the same place by then, we figured we’d just celebrate early. Dinner was delicious! <3

lafamigliacaprese

My friends from church (they pretty much adopted me into their family <3 ) booked me forĀ dinner that weekend–it was awesome to see them again, but I’m also really sad, because outside of this next week, I’m not sure when I’ll ever see them again. :[ Moving really sucks.

If we were having coffee/tea today, Iā€™d tell you thatā€¦I had a super-fun conversation with the guy setting up my fingerprinting session for my background check for residency.

: What’s your skintone?
F: Uh, what are my options?
: Anything from albino to yellow. …or sallow. What the heck is sallow?
F: Um, I think that’s when you’re sickly pale with a yellowish cast to you. Can I go with a light tan?
: I’m so sorry for these options. I’m going to put you down as light brown.

Oh, life. Who would choose sallow?

I don't think I'm really light brown, but alright, we'll go with it.

I don’t think I’m really light brown, but alright, we’ll go with it.

If we were having coffee/tea today, Iā€™d tell you thatā€¦I went to my first presidential rally ever last week! I found out the day before that Bernie Sanders was going to be speaking ~3 miles away from where I’m currently living, and I was actually off early enough to attend, so I decided to go!

It made me super happy to see so many people there with so much passion and enthusiasm inĀ fighting for acceptance and equal rights. <3

If we were having coffee/tea today, Iā€™d tell you thatā€¦although I do miss home (that’s the longest time I’ve been home in 5 years!), it was awesome getting to see Linda and all the pets again! <3

yaydora

I think Dora really missed me. <3

sickandtiredpmuff

Guess who’sĀ adopting the muffmuff and bringing her with me to my residency!? <3

Gosh can you really believe you’ll be done with school forever? Congratulations to you, you’ve worked so hard for this.

    1. I really hope so! :] If not, I guess I’ll just have to befriend some strangers! :P

It’s still really hard to believe right now, but I have a couple more weeks to get used to the idea! :D!

  9. Happy belated birthday and congrats on almost finishing all of you classes! I’m so jealous that you’re going Hawaii, I’ve always wanted to go there.

      Me too! :D

  10. Wow, I have never been to a Presidential rally but President Clinton spoke at my undergrad graduation back in 1992 !

    1. That’s awesome! I think he came to my school back in 2008, but if I recall correctly, it was to rally-ish for Hillary!

  11. Please take me to Hawaii with you?!?!?!

My skin tone is technically “olive” but since I have absolutely no tan I’d probably be the perfect fit for sallow with my paleness and yellowish tinge hahahaha. Actually, once upon a time I was extra yellowish thanks to a mild Vitamin A toxicity (yup.. wayyy too many carrots, sweet potatoes and greens!) but thankfully I got over that :P

    1. I so would if I could! (Feel free to join me if you’re free in June!?!? hahaha :D )

Oh no!!! I’m glad you got over that, haha. We had a patient who was kinda orange once and no one could figure out why until someone thought to ask what she’d been eating, and her favorite food? Carrots. :P

  12. Ahh! So close to graduating! And I’m happy to hear you’ll be able to make it to Hawaii!

  13. Happy belated birthday and yay for being finished with school soon! That’s so exciting! We went to Maui about 12 years ago and it was amazing. Sorry I’m no help with Honolulu.

    1. Thanks, Marcia! :D It’s all good! I’m sure I’ll find lots of things! :]

  14. Yay for the end of school coming AND for Hawaii!! I have never been so can’t wait to hear about your trip :)
Haha, that is a random word to describe skin tone! Can’t they just say beautiful?? :)

haha, aww, thank you, Esther! <3!!

  15. Okay..so I am jeal.ous! Both of Bernie and of Hawaii! Two things I would LOVE! You are one lucky lady, and congrats on the impending graduation!

    1. I seriously found out the evening before that he’d be coming to speak…3 miles from where I lived! :O! So I basically had to go, hehehe.

Thank you! <3 I'm so excited!

  16. Haha! the skin tone conversation make me laugh! Seriously, who *would* choose sallow? Hardly the most flattering description! I am a shade 1.0 according to Urban Decay’s foundation, so I guess that makes me pretty pale.

Happy belated birthday and also happy imminent end of school! Do you have anything like a graduation ceremony to do before you leave for your residency? I remember eating a really odd concoction of whatever was left in the freezer when we left college for the summer. I think a highlight was steak pie with tomato pasta and gravy. It was odd.

Have a wonderful time in Hawaii! I haven’t ever been, but would love to go.

    1. hahaha, I have no idea! I was surprised it was even an option!

Thanks so much! I have my graduation coming up on the 28th! :]! (SO EXCITED, haha.) I’m experiencing some major senioritis right now and it’s kinda bad, but hopefully the vacation and such will mellow me out enough to kick my butt back into gear once residency starts! :]

I hope you get to go there someday!

  17. That’s so exciting to hear that you’re almost done with school! That’s an insanely huge accomplishment, so congratulations are in order. What’s up next for you after school? It’s always sad to say goodbye but you’ll make it! You’re a tough cookie!

As for Hawaii, I’ve been there before but it’s been so long that I don’t remember that much. I know we hiked a mountian there which was pretty fun but other than that, there was a lot of beach time which was amazing! I hope you have fun!

    1. Thanks so much, Tricia! I’m headed to New Jersey next for 3 years in my first-choice Family Medicine residency program! :D! After that, I’m hoping to head back to the west coast to settle down because I’m fairly certain I’ll be completely sick of the cold by then. ;P

I have half a billion different hikes and beaches bookmarked at the moment–I’m so excited, hehehe. :D I wonder how many I’ll actually get to go to!

  18. And I forgot to say HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY!!!

    1. Thank you! <3!!

  19. I’ve never heard of needing to know your skin tone name. Are they trying to eliminate the race question? I’ve been pantry creative too.

    1. I’m not sure! They asked about my race/ethnicity too! :O

  20. Hawaii sounds like a great way to celebrate being done with school. I hope one of your friends does join you but I am sure either way you will enjoy yourself. Strangers can be pretty cool as long as they are not too strange…or sallow. Have a great time and congratulations. p.s. I think pepperoni turns any snack in a delicious meal!

    1. I hope she can! I’d love to have a hiking/exploration/adventure buddy for the crazy hikes I want to do, and it’d be fun to have someone to go to the beach with and such, but we shall see! :]

heh heh heh, here’s to hoping I don’t meet any sallow and strange people! ;P

You have a great point there with the pepperoni!

  21. Ha! Just wait for my recipes on Tuesday – then you will know my RANDOM FOOD COMBOs! haha! But hot damn, that dessert you got when you were celebrating your birthday – THE BOMB!! Was it called BOMB?! Cause it looked like one FOR SURE!

  22. Hawaii!!! I love Hawaii! We were just there this past October. We stayed in Waikiki and I ran up to Diamond Head. It was the most amazing experience! Pearl Harbor was a sobering experience but well worth the time! Enjoy your time there!

    1. Awesome! :D I’m going to be in Waikiki too! I probably won’t be running up Diamond Head (I can’t remember the last time I ran :[ ), but I do plan to hike it! :P I went to Pearl Harbor with my family about…a decade-and-a-half ago, and I agree–sobering, but definitely worth the visit/time!

  23. Yay for almost being done with school! A birthday gift in disguise and a little late ? Hawaii sounds like an awesome trip, enjoy!!
