Tiramisu French Toast

I was talking with Trish somewhere last month and she told me about this awesome cafe in Philly that serves breakfast all day and has a such thing as Tiramisu French Toast.

Tiramisu is probably one of my favorite desserts ever, so obviously, the next logical step was to find a recipe so I could make my own. :O (Recipe adapted from here!)

Neither of us really drink coffee, so we didn’t have any instant coffee powder and subbed that with Kahlua…nor did we manage to get our hands on any marscapone cheese, so we subbed it with nonfat Greek yogurt to make it slightly healthier!

Ingredients:

  • 4 slices of white bread
  • 4 eggs
  • 1/8 cup cream
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp Kahlua
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 2 tbsp butter

(Topping)

  • handful (or two) of frozen berries
  • sliced almonds
  • 1/2 cup Chobani nonfat plain yogurt
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • sprinkle of unsweetened cocoa powder

Instructions:

  1. In a large aluminum tray, combine the eggs, cream, vanilla extract, cinnamon and 1 tbsp Kahlua. Whisk together and let the bread soak in the egg mixture for ~30 seconds on each side.
  2. Heat a grill pan on medium heat and add 1 tbsp of butter. Add french toast and brown. Fry on other side and repeat with remaining slices of bread.
  3. Mix Greek yogurt with honey and Kahlua. Spread on french toast slices and top with cocoa powder, berries and sliced almonds.

  1. Looks so delicious and indulgent! The berries and yogurt make it healthy, right? ;-)

    1. Of course! ;) Although compared to most other tiramisu french toasts, I think this could well be one of the healthiest ones out there.

      Everything in moderation, right? :D…

  2. OMG! :) I just followed you from Pinterest (I’m Anyonita Nibbles) & this looks DELICIOUS, Farrah! :) Pinned it!

    1. Thanks! :] It’s definitely one of the prettier things I’ve made lately, haha. I went on somewhat of a pinning spree over the past couple days and the recipes on your site look amazingly delicious! Hoping to work through em’ eventually! :]

  3. Another amazing recipe! I love that you so easily found subsitutes for items you didn’t already have. I’d imagine that kahlua would be an amazing addition! I’m always looking for recipes that are a little heathier, so the greek yogurt would be a-okay in my book as well.

French toast is my FAVORITE breakfast meal, and I definitely am going to be trying this one out as soon as I can collect the ingredients! Thanks for sharing sweets. Xo

    1. heh heh heh, the combination of trying to save money and being lazy (aka not having to go out to buy ingredients) works out pretty well for me sometimes. I love the way it turned out though! (I adore kahlua and French toast is probably one of my favorite breakfast meals as well.) It’s definitely a more “guilt-free” (I generally lack this sort of guilt, but meh) recipe! :P I hope you get a chance to try it! :]!

  4. WOW these look incredible and a perfect brunch item for the weekend!

    1. It was a fun one to make! Kahlua (and maybe Bailey’s) is pretty much the only alcoholic substance I will consume, so I like making food with it when it’s around! :]

  7. yum! this sounds delicious! thanks for sharing – it’s perfect for fall :)

    1. Thank you! It’s probably one of the prettiest things I’ve ever made. Usually, I don’t put too much of an effort in making it look good because I just want to eat it (sigh). I’ve been working on it though! :P
