Southern Living Super Fast Southern

Earlier last-last year, I won this cookbook (Southern Living Super Fast Southern) from a giveaway at Jessica’s blog, A Little More Each Day, and I’m finallyyy getting around to reviewing it! (There are affiliate links in this post, so I may get a tiny commission if you click through to buy something, at no cost to you!)

I’m probably not the best person to ask when it comes to “authentic Southern dishes/cooking” because…aside from chicken and waffles, I really can’t name much else. West Virginia seems to kindasorta consider itself as part of the South, but I’m still hopelessly confused, so if some of these don’t sound “authentic” to you, consider this to be my forewarning.

However, if you’re all for comfort food and don’t have very many (if any) dietary restrictions, I think you’ll like this book!

Alright, so they definitely weren’t kidding when they said that the recipes here are super fast. The recipes in here don’t take more than 20 minutes–perfect for anyone who’s always busy! :]

Southern Living Superfast Southern is divided into 8 chapters. I really liked the image gallery they included in the table of contents! Before the recipes, there are 10 secrets to speed up your cooking! I’ll share 5 of em’ here:

  • Start with a clean and tidy kitchen.
  • Read over the entire recipe before shopping.
  • While you’re at it, prep a little extra.
  • Cook fewer times than you eat.
  • There’s often no need to thaw.

Each recipe includes the prep time, serving size, ingredients, and instructions. Wherever applicable, there are also “Instant Adds” and “Easy Sides” to find store-bought toppings and simple sides for the recipe in question.

Love the secrets you shared about how to speed up your meal cooking. Great things to keep in mind and make the cooking at home process less overwhelming. The photos in this cookbook look delicious, too! Fast, delicious, what more could one need?!

My favorites are cornbread for savory, banana pudding for sweet (what, we need to eat something other than carbs?) I’m also totally that southerner who has to eat black-eyed peas and collard greens on New Year’s, though I hated the greens growing up.

Banana pudding! I haven’t had that in ages, and I also haven’t ever had black-eyed peas (I don’t think)–this clearly needs to change soon! 😛
