Touristing + Food Truck Hopping Through Oahu

While I was in Hawai’i, I spent the weekend with a college friend I used to dance with in Na Keiki O’ Hawai’i.Ā I was originally going to hike the Pali Puka trail with her, butttt we opted for a lazy beach day instead!

(If you missed my vacationing on the cheap in Oahu post, my Diamond Head hike, and/or my Waikiki food tour, make sure you check those out too!)

Twas definitely an awesome idea, because I happened to join in on a free yoga class at Lululemon that morning, and apparently tweaked something in my back.

My back had already been hurting a lot Ā (for a while, it was really painfulĀ to even sneeze! ;_; ) due to a month’s worth of working on things whilst lying on my stomach but…rest assured, I’m actually okay now because yay for ocean therapy and movement!

Liz and JT have their beach packing list down to a perfect science, so we had everything we could possibly need! We spent Saturday atĀ Sherwood BeachĀ in Waimanalo catching up on life, eating the world, and enjoying the sand and/or ocean.

On Sunday, our first stop was Tropical Farms. If you’re at all a fan of macadamia nuts, you should definitely stop by here! :] They have a bunch of free samples of different flavors of macadamia nuts + kona coffee!chickenstropicalfarms

If you watched Jurassic Park as a child…you should also make a stop at Kualoa Ranch! Ā That’s where part of the movie was filmed! :] We just stopped to look around, but they also offerĀ horseback riding, ziplining, ATV tours, movie tours, and a whole lot of explorations!

If you’ve seen Forgetting Sarah Marshall and can recall the part whereĀ Rachel (Mila Kunis) and Peter (Jason Segel) jump off a cliff…we stopped there too!Ā Laā€™ie Point is absolutely beautiful…and yes, I jumped. I feel like I have enough content about La’ie Point to make it its own post, so more on that at some other time! ;P

Afterward, we went food truck hopping to obtain sustenance! We got Oasis drinks (sugarcane juice + coconut milk <3) and banana lumpia and stopped at Romy’s Kahuku Prawns and Shrimp (I can’t actually have shrimp, but their corn was good)!

We randomly bumped into another mutual college friend I hadn’t seen since I’d graduated (also from NKOH!) so we all ate lunch together…and then went for a second lunch at another food truck place! (Hooray for fish & chips and shaved ice!)

We also did somewhat of a drive-by of Sharks Cove and Chinaman’s Hat along the way to North Shore! There was a ton of traffic, so we didn’t quite get to hit up all the places on our list, but I like to think we put a good dent in it! I just need to move there so I can finish the rest of it! :P

Our last stop was at the Turtle Bay Resort since my friend is a part-time Polynesian dancer and performs there twice a week. :]

I decided to go up during the “audience participation” section to support my friend and she told the band I’d just graduated from med school and was on my post-graduation celebration trip. I ended up getting roped into going onstage with one of the dancers. (Why did I not see that coming?)

So here’s me just wingin’ it. (It was a lot of fun though! It also made me really miss dancing, so I’m super glad that it’s back in my life again, kindasorta!)

  • Which of these places would you have wanted to stop at most?
  • If you’ve been to Hawai’i, what’s your favorite eatery/place to go?
  • How do you feel about audience participation at events? Have you ever volunteered as tribute?

    1. Ah, food truck food is glorious! (Or it can be, haha.) Fair food can potentially count!? :P

  6. This sounds like such a perfect day! I have to admit, whenever I’m watching a show and they try to get the audience to come up my brain is automatically screaming “HIDE! RUN FOR YOUR LIFE! DUCK! COVER! ACT INVISIBLE!” :P

    1. hahaha, that’s my general response too!!! :P “DON’T MAKE EYE CONTACT!” is something that definitely jumps into my mind. This is the one of the only times I ever volunteered! :P The only other time was after an aerial silk performance, but apparently they weren’t serious about asking for audience participation. :'(

  20. My husband and I honeymooned in HAwaii 6 yrs ago and we had the BEST fish tacos in Kauai at some roadside stand we stopped on a whim. We also had the best sushi in Oahu. Can’t wait to go back some day and spend more time in Kauai. Hawaii will always be special to us. Your pix are spectacular!

    1. Aww, that’s awesome! I can’t believe I didn’t have fish tacos while I was out there! (Clearly I’m going to have to go back. <3) I want to check out the other islands too! :]
