A Trip To the Ben & Jerry’s Factory in Vermont

Welcome to another Travel Tuesday! If you’re a fan of ice cream and happen to be passing through Vermont, Ben & Jerry’s should be on your pit stop list! Come find out more about the Ben & Jerry’s Factory Tour! :]

I actually meant to have this posted back in…October of 2016, so suffice to say, I’ve been lagging just a bit. But at least I’m finally gettin’ to it! Better late than never?

A Trip To the Ben & Jerry’s Factory in Vermont

My first encounter with Ben & Jerry’s was back when I went to Davis. There was one that was a fairly close walk/bike ride from the music building, and this is where I discovered the joy that was Free Cone Day, which is usually somewhere in April, and back then, most often on or around my birthday. <3

Once upon a time during Trish/my trip to Vermont, our plans to hike up Camel’s Hump got derailed by a whole lotta rain, so what better way to spend the time than with delicious food? :o

Location: 1281 Waterbury-Stowe Rd Waterbury, VT 05676
Admission: $4 (adults 13-59yo); $3 for senior (60+), free for kids (12 + under)
Duration: 30 minutes
Parking: Free (lower + upper level areas)
Hours: Check here!

Tours leave every 30 minutes and run 7 days a week except for holidays (Christmas Day + New Year’s Day)!

During the tour, you’ll get to learn about the history of Ben & Jerry’s, how they make their ice cream, and how they put their values into action!

A sample of the day is included in the factory tour and you can also sample different flavors at the scoop shop!

The gift shop has lots of really cute items. I got the cow bowl pictured below, but unfortunately dropped it 1.5 years in and was udderly utterly devastated. :'(! I need to replace it sometime! <3benandjerrys3 benandjerrys2You can visit the Flavor Graveyard located behind the plant too! (It was freezing cold and pouring rain outside when we came here, so we neglected to do this..)

In the summertime, they also have free outdoor movies on Fridays, usually from July through early August!

They also have a “Flavor Fanatic Experience” available on Wednesdays + Saturdays where you get to make + taste ice cream! It’s pretty pricey at $175/participant, and we didn’t partake in it, but if you adore ice cream and/or Ben & Jerry’s, it’s an option!

  • Have you ever been to the Ben & Jerry’s headquarters?
  • What’s your favorite ice cream flavor?

  1. I’ve never been to a Ben & Jerry’s HQ but it sounds like so much fun! I visited Vermont several years ago while doing college tours and I wish we’d stopped by. (Is that Broccoli Cheddar Chunk ice cream for real though?? I’m not sure I’d want to try that one :P)

    1. Aww, it’s a fun place to check out if you’re ever in the area again! (The Broccoli Cheddar Chunk is thankfully just a joke! :P )

  2. My brother has this VT Food Day or Weekend tour planned out that he had done with his wife once where you hit Ben and Jerry’s plus about 3 other food places (maybe Cabot was one?). We always intended to go with him but then we moved to FL. Someday!

    1. Ooo, that sounds like fun! Cabot was probably one of them–I meant to visit that at some point too but mayhaps next time! Food tours are the best! :P

  3. Oh my goodness, this is so cute! I especially love the bowl that says “I like to spoon”. This looks like such a fun time!

  6. Having a Ben and Jerry’s that close to me would be dangerous for me lol. I’m the biggest ice cream fan there is, no lie! Every time I have an opportunity to get a dessert, I always get something ice cream related lol.

    1. hahaha, it’d be bad for me too! I went through the line 3-4x back when there was a Ben & Jerry’s Free Cone Day near my college campus! :P

  7. Oh how fun! I’d love to go when they had the outdoor movies. I think that would be really fun and added benefit of stopping by the factory. Thanks for sharing!

There are a lot of Ben & Jerrys in San Francisco. I don’t eat ice cream much but I when I do, I usually go for their wild and fun flavors. What a fun tour!! It made me sooo hungry and a little cold haha. I would love to see that flavor graveyard but I understand.

  10. I lived in Vermont for 5 years so was fun to see this post! It’s such a great area and Route 100 was where we took all our guests.

    1. It was such a fun place to visit! The free ice cream at the end definitely didn’t hurt! :P
