2015 Goals

So…I love making lists. (There’s just something so satisfying about being able to cross off the things you’ve accomplished!)

Since I already have a long-term-ish list going (101 in 1001) and I’ve also already made my fitness goals for 2015, I thought I’d throw in a more generalized short-ish term one as well!

2015 Goals (Yes, I have a plan!)

2015 Goals

The other posts for the #dishthefit linkup got me to thinking–what would my one-word slogan be? What would my word be for 2015? I’m sure we’ve all noticed how very frighteningly verbose I tend to be, so that was a major challenge, but…

Persevere:

/ˌpərsəˈvir/to continue in a course of action even in the face of difficulty or with little or no prospect of success.

There have definitely been a number times throughout this year where things just felt so, so bleak to me. I was terrified that I wouldn’t have a future, that I wouldn’t be able to get to where I wanted to be in my life, that even if I tried my hardest, it might not work out. I have incredible people in my life though, and having that support system really helped me to stay positive and get through the more difficult times.

I’m sure 2015 will bring with it its own set of new challenges for me to face, but I would like to think that as long as I persevere, I will make it out okay, and it’ll be worth every bit of the struggle.

Elsie @ Sharing Healthiness shared an awesome saying in my comments that I adore: “Perseverance is the virtue from which all your other virtues will be born.” Looks like I’m all set!

Life (Also Known as “Medical School”)

  • Finish revamping my CV.
  • Ask for and compile LOR’s (letter of recommendation).
  • Set up my 4th-year rotation schedule!
  • Pass both of the second parts of my medical licensing exams!
  • Interviews for residency programs that I adore would be lovely, because I’d really like to have a future. <3
  • A scholarship would be awesome too, because I want to give my student loans a big (or small, I really don’t care as long as it’s something!) kick in the face!

5 Blog Goals for 2015
Blog
This blog has actually been around for quite some time–I was just really antisocial for the first couple of years because I was trying to get into/survive through medical school. Granted, I’m still trying to survive now, but life has improved considerably since part 1 of my boards licensing exams disappeared forever.

  • I have a new ongoing series in the works for my blog (more info on Sunday)! :]
  • Work on food photography and fix the old + ugly food pictures from way back (when you completely did not care about what it looked like–so long as it tasted good). Re-pin said recipes once they’ve been fixed!
  • Fix my [currently nonexistent] newsletter. D:
  • Business cards would be kinda nice to have!
  • Establish a schedule and be more organized!
  • Ambassadorships for communities/brands/organizations that go with my values/mission as a food, fitness & lifestyle blogger!
  • Do awesome things so I can blog about it. By that, I really mean that future topics for this year include living out of a car for months at a time, flying across the country multiple times in a single month, and attempting to be on top of my game even if I haven’t slept for 20 hours. Oh the joys of being a medical student! :O!
  • Expand on the health side of my blog so I don’t completely fail in my grand plans to healthify the nation.

    1. For sure! To be honest, I’m completely dreading mid-2015 (yay boards), but all my limbs are crossed that I keep on truckin’ through and that it won’t be as terrible as I imagine it might be! :P The struggle is what makes you appreciate the things in life anyway, right? :] (Foreshadowing of tomorrow’s post! :O!)

  5. I was the same way with my blog in the beginning, for the first few years I never really felt like I fit in I was trying to lose weight and get healthy so I never really put myself out there. Now I feel like I actually belong and am playing catch up with people who just started their blogs….such is life I guess! Happy goal hunting in 2015 Farrah, I’ve enjoyed getting to know you over the past few months. Have a wonderful last day of 2014!

    1. Same here! I’ve been journaling for most of my life, so I originally just started this so I could keep doing that, and thought I wouldn’t have time to actually get to know bloggers/join awesome communities, so I stayed in my little bubble…as it turns out with most things in life, you make time for things that you enjoy! :P I’m glad I busted out of my antisocial blogging shell! It’s been great getting to know you as well! <3 Looking forward to another great year! :]

  6. Perseverance is a great word for 2015! I am excited to announce my word tomorrow :D I love all of your blog goals — they sound great! Cheers to a wonderful 2015!

Heh, that’s probably a fitting word to describe what we’ve both have been through. You’ve accomplished quite the feats this year. Something I neither have the smarts or the patience that you (presumably =p) have had. I on the other hand have been able to make it in the bay area. Having moved from pretty much safety and cheap prices to a city that’s just the completely opposite. I’m glad I did, though, as it really has made me into a new person. Everyday that I wake up and see the city from the island further reminds me that I’ve accomplished a lot to get out here and that my job is to make a difference, big or small.

And that’s another thing, learning the new job. I’m familiar with assisting people with disabilities (my mom, gradparents, my ex’s grandparents) but I hadn’t realized how challenging it would be to help them get jobs. Every person I’ve met has given me perspective into their lives and how they persevere with both their disabilities and also with the job/labor market out here. And the ones that shine the brightest definitely help me work harder for them because quite honestly they really deserve every opportunity that everyone else can easily have.

As for the goals, I think I met mine this year, which was to not turn tail and retreat back to Sacramento where it was safe. Tempting for most of the year, but I managed to accept a transfer that would keep me permanent (if I really want it to) in the bay area.

Fitness Goal: Become a robo-gorilla. 315 x 3 Bench, 405 x 3 Squats, and 495 x 3 Deadlifts. I really have to take it seriously this upcoming year to even get any of those at least a one rep max. I’m also trying to do it with as little supplements as possible, because to be honest some of that stuff scares me, haha.

For life goals: Promote. If I can stay in the department (even if it means changing cities), that’d be great. But if not, I’ll have to go elsewhere. It wouldn’t really matter where, either. But while I don’t know what exactly I’d like to do with life, I know that I really like helping people. So with that idea I’ll run with it as best as I can.

Cheers to you for a happy 2015.

    1. Sometimes I heavily question the smarts part on my end, but I think I’m doing a whole lot better on the patience! I’m glad you’re liking SF and that you don’t regret moving! I give you major props, because Sac vs. SF are definitely worlds apart, and I cannot imagine myself living in SF. :x

It’s awesome what you’re doing with your life, and that’s great that you’re making a difference in their lives and helping them to get out there into the job market! (As opposed to some of the people I’ve been interacting with on a daily basis who are all perfectly capable of doing more with their lives but have absolutely no desire to do so. ;_; )

I need to kick my butt back into gear in the fitness realm. I actually haven’t lifted anything in a couple weeks (ahhh! ;_; ). I’ve still been making it to my TKD/BJJ classes whenever possible, but as far as actual gym time and lifting things up/putting them down, I’ve been a total slacker. (Cold weather, closed gyms and my laziness are all contributing factors.)

That’s the best idea to run with! I think the world would be a much better place if more people adopted the mentality of helping others, as opposed to personal gain.

Best wishes to you for an awesome 2015! :]

  7. Persevere is a beautiful word! I love it and it totally resonates with me as well!
You are going to accomplish so many amazing things in 2015! I’ll always be here to support you in all you do and I can’t wait to hear about your medical school journey AND this new blog series ;)

    1. Thank you! <3 It helps with reminding me to continue fighting the good fight [of life! har har]!

I really hope I manage to! <3 I'm so glad I "met" you this year through the wonderful world of no longer being antisocial in the blogging world! You're one of my favorite bloggers, and I'll definitely appreciate that support! <3

I hope I don't lose steam on said blog series! :P The plus side is that I [theoretically] can't ever run out of topics for it, so that's a definite plus! :P

  8. Good for you- you’re going to have a great year. I still need to sit down with a pen and pad and makes some notes for what I want to accomplish. Happy New Year!

Happy New Year to you as well! :]!

  9. I think we all have those thoughts in life at some point or another. I am SO looking forward to 2015, good things are to come :) Good luck with everything!! Happy New Year!

Happy New Year to you as well! <3 Here's to an awesome 2015!

  10. One of my biggest goals is to stay consistent with my blog. I love that you used perseverance. My word for 2015 is discipline. Without discipline, there’s no way for me to be consistent.

    1. That’s definitely a good one! It’d be monumentally difficult to get anything done without having discipline! (I need that too, so I’ll maintain more of a balance in my life!)

  11. Love that word!! Good choice!

    1. I need to get on that, although without an actual logo or anything, I suppose the sky’s the limit with the design. I’ll figure something out eventually! :P

  13. 2015 is going to be a freaking busy year for you! I can’t imagine being in med school. It sounds so stressful, so kudos to you for being able to do that and still blog! I’m envious. I need to go back and fix my old blog photos too. All of my old stuff is so embarrassing! Yikes! I want to get blog business cards too! So much.
    Tiffany recently posted…In 2015, I Will…My Profile

    1. I think of blogging as my de-stress break from med school, although I really need to work on a balance (because reading blogs is generally infinitely more exciting than studying :'( ). I’ll have to adapt somehow!

Agreed on the old stuff! There are some entries I kinda just took out the pictures for because it just didn’t look very appealing. D: I wish I’d cared more about aesthetics back then! :P

  14. I feel like I could have written this!! I am getting my degrees in Medical Physics and am going through the residency applications now. I just pray I get some interviews and hopefully a position! It is the first year a residency is required so it is a little crazy and I’m worried!

And I’ve neglected my blog. I was going well at first but with this new grad school/life change, I have been letting it slide. Time to shape up and get it back on track!

    Happy New Year!

    1. Ahhh! I feel you on the stress of applications/interviews! That’ll be me next year (hopefully)! I really hope I land a position in someplace that I love (and vice versa)! Fingers crossed for the both of us! :]!

In all honesty, I’m probably going to have to neglect my blog a whole lot more this upcoming year because I’m probably going to be traveling all over the place every couple of weeks. Life will be interesting though, at least? :P Maybe I’ll find a way to make it work! Best of luck, and happy new year to you as well! :]

  15. I do like that quote that Elsie shared with you. I have problems with perseverance a bit in my life, but you made me take a second look at it. And it’s definitely a goal I need to work on too! I wish you the greatest fortune and blessings in the New Year, Farrah!
    Kaylin@Enticinghealthyeating recently posted…Life Lately: Eat your Beans…For Breakfast?My Profile

    1. I think that and throwing out self-doubt are probably the two things I need to work on most! I’m gonna attempt to take it one step at a time, and hopefully things will turn out swimmingly! :P

Thanks so much! I wish the same to you! Here’s to an awesome 2015! :]

  16. Those are some great goals and you’re right, you can do it if you just persevere! My goals this year are mostly blog related, but I have some personal and fitness goals too – I’m pretty excited and motivation to get going. I feel like it’s going to a really great year for everyone! Thanks for sharing and all the best in 2015 :)

  17. Are you starting your rotations part of med school? You are a busy woman to be blogging full time and a full time med student. A lot of people have “get business cards” on their blog, which makes me think that maybe I should make business cards! That would be fun and cute. Good luck on your goals, my friend. Thanks for linking up!!

    1. I’m in the middle of rotations right now, but next year is when I basically get to go where I want to for them! I’m anticipating a dip in my blogging consistency, but hopefully I’ll still be able to keep it up! Thanks! :]

  18. I got some good advice about goal setting. It was all about how you write the goals…something to the effect of:
    – by June, I will have run my first marathon
    – within 6 months, I will have lost 10 pounds

That sort of thing. I like this approach – it’s all about envisioning what will be…what the future will look like.

Thanks for sharing your ambitious goals for 2015!!

    1. I like that idea of attaching a deadline to it! I feel like that’ll make it more likely to happen, since it doesn’t give me an excuse to put it off “until later.”

      Thanks for the suggestion! :D
