Toledo Zoo

Welcome to anotherĀ Travel Tuesday! I legitimately can’t remember the last time I went to a zoo, but I’m back today to tell you abouttt the Toledo Zoo in Ohio! :]

Toledo Zoo

  • $18 for kids 2-11/seniors 60+

Parking: $8 ($16 if you have a vehicle that takes up over 1 parking spot)
Address: 2700 Broadway St, Toledo, Ohio 43609
Hours: 10 am – 5 pm (May 1 – Labor Day), 10 am – 4 pm (day after Labor Day to April 30)

*Buy tickets from Kroger ($18 for adults)! Lucas County residents get a $2 discount and are admitted free every Monday between 10 am – 12 pm.

Here’s mama bear!

Our first order of business was to go look at the polar bear exhibit because Kyle’s friend/his friend’s wife told us there was a baby polar bear! (His name is Bo, short for Borealis! Born December of last year. :] He’s adorable! <3)

Anddd Bo playing in the water! <3

There are daily exhibits (e.g. animal feedings, animal spotlights, animal keeper talks) as well as a few other experiences, including:

  • African Carousel ($2 per rider)
  • Tower Ridge, aka giraffe feeding for an extra fee ($5 for individual basket, $11 for a family basket) open from 10:30 am – 4 pm

Tower Ridge giraffe feeding!

  • Safari Railway ($2.50 per rider)
  • Aquarium Adventure Trail (free; has a “Cool Zone” that’s great for summer days!)

Aerial Adventure Course (includes a Sky Bridge with 3 250′ bridges that are 30′ in the air, a “quick jump” for a 30′ jump off the main tower, ziplining, and an aerial challenge course; costs $15-25 depending on which package you choose)

I learned that flamingos are apparently only pink due to the crustaceans in their diet. :o

  • Aquarium (includes a touch tank, ocean lab, kelp forest, and daily live dives)
  • Garden workshops and tours (limited spots; requires an extra fee)

Baby chimpanzee trying to get his dad’s attention (dad was chillin’ under a ginormous wet blanket)

Tink was hit by a boat and couldn’t swim properly, so she was rescued by a sea turtle rehab facility and transported to the Toledo Zoo. <3 They attached weights to her shell to help her dive/move more normally, but she can’t return to the ocean because they’d eventually fall off and have to be reattached.

Tink the sea turtle!

The Toledo Zoo also participates in a lot of conservation efforts both locally and abroad!

P.S. You’re allowed to bring snacks/drinks into the zoo!

African penguins!

  1. I think I’ve only been to a couple zoos, but I live near the Cincinnati Zoo and that one is super awesome. The Toledo Zoo looks fun. Love penguins and polar bears.
