A portion of the Shaver Lake Lakeview Trail is located along the North Shore of Shaver Lake! It starts off at an intersection about 0.6 miles past the locked gate beyond the “Road 3 picnic area.” It follows a fire road for most of its length so it’s great for horseback riding + mountain biking as well.

Lake View Trail is pretty clearly marked + offers lots of views of the lake while you hike through the forest. Black Rock is the high point of the trail and you can get a great panoramic view of the trail.

At the end of the trail, you can choose to either trace your steps or go on the Perimeter road back to the trailhead.

Be sure to check their website to see if the trail is closed! Since it’s in a forest and it’s in California, it is unfortunately prone to wildfire.

Like a lot of hikes, it can get pretty crowded on the weekends, so if you can, try to either go early or on a weekday or both!

On the way up, we came across a gas station that also sold homemade pies!! We were all set on the caramel apple one but came across their bumbleberry pie and couldn’t say no. Since we were vaguely worried about attracting bears, we ended up finishing it off in one sitting (it was delicious).

A mixture of raspberries, strawberries, blueberries + blackberries!

  1. This looks like a gorgeous lake with a peaceful walk in! And good choice eating that pie…I mean, you don’t want the bears. I’d probably have eaten it all too šŸ˜‚Though I don’t know what bumble berry is, it looks delicious!

    1. hahaha, right? :P I’m not sure what exactly bumbleberry was either (probably a mix of a few varieties of tasty berries *-*) but it was delicious!

  5. I always look at the length of hike and its elevation gain. This one looks great. Anything under 1000 feet of elevation gain is great for an afternoon.

    1. Agreed! Sometimes all I want a chiller hike to go on to explore/enjoy nature. :]
