WayGood Tea

I’m not sure how much of you know this, but despite being a medical student, I’m not much of a coffee person. I think I’ve had coffee maybe…15 times since I started med school back in 2012 grad school back in 2011? If even? (If you include undergrad, the count might make it to 20.) My classmates may or may not think I’m a little weird and/or not human because of this.

But that’s why I always add that little bit on tea for each month’s Ultimate Coffee Date on my blog!

disclaimer

The words “detox” or “cleanse” tend to remindĀ me of theĀ whole “quick fix” mentality that I try every day to break through with my [preceptor’s] patients. There is no miracle pill or drug that will instantly make you healthy, thin, “toned,” or whatever it is that you’re going for.

Unless you are genetically blessed beyond belief (there are anomalies out there, but even in those cases, it’ll likely catch up with them later), it’s something you have to work for by making healthier lifestyle and dietary changes.

Out here, one of my favorite things to suggest = to swap out pop/soda and sugary drinks for water or [unsweet] tea. Introducing smallĀ changes can make a huge difference, and what better way to do it than with delicious herbal tea?

Enter WayGood Tea–like they said in their FAQ, “it doesnā€™t make sense to refill your body with junk after youā€™ve been cleaning it out, right?”

My friend Emily shared a great post for one of my Medical Mondays earlier this year on Diet. (If you haven’t read it yet, go check it out!)

WayGood TeaĀ is a small company based in the beautiful Pacific Northwest (I’m heading there for an interview later this year! :]!)Ā I’ve been up there a couple times, and the general impression I’ve gotten is that I’d really fit into the lifestyle up there. *-*

These teas are made of organic, fair-trade ingredients. Each container comes with 22 full-leaf pyramid sachets, and thereĀ are 4 different varieties:

  • Chamomile Mint Cleanse
  • Ginger Rooibos Cleanse
  • Lavender Earl Grey Cleanse
  • Lemon Jasmine Cleanse

3/4 of themĀ are caffeine-free (except the Lavender Earl Grey Cleanse, which may contain small amounts of caffeine).

As pictured, I got to try a full container of Ginger Rooibos, and individual samples of the Chamomile Mint and the Lavender Earl Grey.Ā I couldn’t pick a favorite, but I introduced these teas to my everyday life amidst my “homeless hospital starvation diet” (the name is super misleading–explanation here).

I grew up on herbal teas, and I love ginger,Ā so I was ecstatic to try that out, and it definitely didn’t disappoint! (To my knowledge, I’ve never had rooibos tea, so I cannot comment on whether or not I tasted that…)

I treated it as more as just a delicious tea to drink vs. a “detox/cleanse,” and had it either in the morning before breakfast or in the evening before bed (aka times when I was home to boil water to make tea).

I feel like it did improve my complexion though!

I feel like it did improve myĀ skinĀ though!

I will admit, I’m a total sucker for the packaging. The containers are made of 100% recycled paper, and let you know what ingredients you’ll find in the tea, as well as what each ingredient does.

The Ginger Rooibos contained rooibos tea, rose petals, hibiscus, orange peel, rosehips, ginger root, and hawthorn berry.

The containers areĀ also conveniently organized so that some are packed together so you can keep a pack at home, or you can take individually wrapped ones along with you in your bag when you’re on the go. (This works out especially well for me at the moment, given the amount of traveling I’ve been doing/will be doing this year.)

  1. Alex doesn’t drink coffee either. People are always amazed! We both ALWAYS order decaf–he doesn’t dislike coffee, he just doesn’t love the taste like I do, and he doesn’t like jitters.

  3. The picture with you and the cat is adorable. Love, love, love it. And I’m a tea drinker, too! I used to drink coffee in college but then one day I just lost the taste for it.

    1. Thanks, Kaylin! <3 She's been running away from home lately (I brought her back to Please Save A Cat since I basically don't have a home right now), and my friend thinks it's because she's looking for me. ;_; My heart's breaking!!

  4. Such beautiful packaging. I agree about quick fixes. I do love tea though. :) I haven’t heard of this brand and will check them out.

  5. I’m more of a tea drinker as well (though I still love my coffee!) I love an earl grey lavender! But anything with ginger is my favourite for the end of the day to settle my stomach before bed.

I will be keeping my eyes peeled for any potential deals!!! Thanks Farrah

haha, glad I’m not alone! :D

  7. How does Way Good Tea compare to Teavana? I am always looking for good teas – especially that it’s getting cooler! I will ditch that coffee in a second!

Haha… kitty approves soft skin! So cute!

    1. I think the teas at Teavana tend to be a lottt sweeter (the ones I’ve tried, anyway). I love em’ too, but I’ve never actually purchased any (helloooo, sampling-at-the-door! #brokestudentlife)!

  8. I love tea. I usually drink it iced throughout the day. I love the packaging of this too. I will check them out, and I especially would like to try the Chamomile Mint. Sounds yummy!

  10. This sounds like such a great combo! Thanks for sharing, Farrah! I’d take tea over coffee any time! The only coffee I love is pumpkin spiced latte. :-)

  11. I like rooibos tea! And completely agree with you about the detoxes and cleanses. They just don’t work long-term!

  12. I love coffee but I also love tea…maybe I just like to drink warm liquids? I’m not sure. I love ginger too it’s one of my favorite flavors I used to hate it yet with time I’ve learned to adore it like I had liked it all along. I can’t get into cleanses it just sounds horrible.

    1. I really like warm liquids too (especially now that the weather’s gotten so much cooler over here)! I used to not like ginger either, but super glad that somewhere along the way, I gave it another chance! :]
