We met at the front of Bright Angel Bicycles next to the Grand Canyon Visitor Center (~5 miles past the South Entrance Ranger Station off the South Entrance Road).
The tour lasted 3 hours including the bike ride, photo stops, bathroom breaks, and gift shop stop! The rental also includes the bike and helmet rental as well as a two-way shuttle. ($69.50 including tax!)

We covered about 5.5 miles on the provided bikes traveling on the historic Hermit Road route Hopi Point to Hermit’s rest + offers beautiful views of the South Rim. It’s pretty much all downhill, so if you were at all concerned about having to bike uphill, don’t you worry.

The tour is safe for families with kids too–there was a 9 year old on our tour!

The roads are also on paved greenways and closed to public traffic, so for the most part, you’ll only really have to look out for other cyclists and the national park shuttles.

  1. What a cool adventure. I have a goal to hit the Grand Canyon in 2021.

    1. Yay! I hope you have fun when you go! :]

  2. I’ve hiked in the Grand Canyon a few times so this is a totally new way to see. I love it. It’s definitely for me. So different than hiking down into the big ditch. I like that it’s on car-free roads especially.

    1. I wanna hike down into the big ditch next time! :P I haven’t had a chance to do that yet! *-*

  3. This sounds like an awesome way to explore more of the Grand Canyon. Like Karen, I’ve done a bit of hiking in the area, and would love to explore it on two wheels!

    1. It definitely helped us to cover more ground! :P

  4. I was at the Grand Canyon nearly a decade ago. I remember how hard it was to really comprehend the expansiveness. I hope to go back some day and do more hiking!

    1. That’s awesome! I’d love to go back someday and hike to the bottom! *-*

  5. Oooh this is the kind of small tour that I love! This is sooo much more fun than getting onto a bus! Plus you get to see and learn about the Grand Canyon. What a treat!! I really love your photos.

It must be such a fun job for the tour guide too!

    1. Thanks so much — I definitely enjoyed it more than I would’ve enjoyed a bus tour (I fall asleep in most moving vehicles within 10-15 min if I’m the passenger :( )!

He seemed like he was having fun with it! :]

  6. What a great idea to ride along a National Park instead of always doing hikes. I have never visited a NP on a bike but I once did a bike tour in Berlin and I really enjoyed it for a change.

    1. That sounds like fun! I’ve usually only done hiking, but we decided to switch it up with the bike tour and it was a lot of fun! :]

  7. I was lucky enough to visit the Grand Canyon a few times while my parents lived in Phoenix. A bike tour would have been a great idea – we went on foot but of course could have covered more ground your way!

  8. This is one trip I have not made yet and I am hoping to experience the beauty and the tours of Grand Canyon National Park one day. The pictures are absolutely stunning too.
