Ultimate Coffee Date: November 2017

Hi everyone! What’s been going in your life? Pull up a chair and come catch up on life with me for the Ultimate Coffee Date!

Ultimate Coffee Date: November 2017

Ultimate Coffee Date: November 2017

If we were having tea today, I’d tell you that…I got paid my first $10 from Achievemint about a month ago! (Find out more about it here!) Yes, progress is slow (I’m sure it’d be faster if I were a runner–there aren’t very many apps out there that track lifting, unfortunately), but getting randomly paid to just live my regular life is pretty cool too. If you use my link to sign up, we each get 250 points, so hooray for a jumpstart of sorts?

If we were having tea today, I’d tell you that…I apparently made unprecedented history by getting to cover one of the Rutgers football games as a resident! (They’ve never let a resident do this before. :O!) I covered the homecoming game against Purdue and we won!! :D

That weekend was actually probably the toughest one I’ve had in terms of sleep (or lack thereof). I was actually banned from the hospital for violating work hours (even though I was voluntarily doing so). I was trying to make sure I’d be there for one of my pregnant patients since she’s been following with me since we first found out she was pregnant. I’d promised that I would do everything in my power to be there for her and the aforementioned ban almost ruined that, but I managed to convince them to let me come back on the grounds of providing continuity care for my patient!

…Then I covered a 12 hour Friday night shift…and the football game on Saturday. When I finally got home that evening, I slept for 13 hours straight. I think Muffin thought I’d died so she was pretty ecstatic when I woke up and wouldn’t stop following me around. <3 I’ve since finished off all the delivery requirements for graduation! (Not that it matters, because I’m sure I’ll end up having to catch at least a couple more babies before I finish residency.)

If we were having tea today, I’d tell you that…I joined the Rutgers Ballroom Dancing Club about a month ago and it’s been a lot of fun! I took an introductory course about 7 years ago but hadn’t done anything else with it until recently, but it’s been a really great way to destress (along with salsa)!

I think it might be fun to eventually possibly try competing so I’ve been looking into ballroom dancing dresses and they’re so darn pretty (and expensive)! *-* My parents are currently chillin’ in the motherland though, so I’m hoping they’ll be able to find something for a significantly cheaper price over there! :P

^Those are two I found that I really like. *-*

If we were having tea today, I’d tell you that…I recently finally got a haircut (what what)! This is a big deal only because I haven’t cut my hair in almost 2 years, mainly due to lack of time. Ponytails were starting to hurt my head though so I figured enough was enough!

My hair feels so much lighter now! I kept wanting to flip my hair around like I was in a hair commercial, hahaha. I made an appointment for a couple hours after one of my night shifts ended so I actually nodded off at least 4 times during my haircut. (So so glad he didn’t accidentally cut a huge chunk of my hair off as a result of that!)

If we were having tea today, I’d tell you that…I’m actually back in Lewisburg right now! I learned how to take the front wheel off my mountain bike yesterday morning so I brought it with me and am hoping to check out some of the nearby trails if the weather decides to cooperate with me!

    1. My extracurriculars are my de-stressing/breaks from my work life! :D! I’m definitely excited for outpatient hours once I finish residency though, hehehe.

  2. Your hair looks great! How exciting that you got to cover the Rutgers football game and make history while you were at it. :) Hope you have fun in the ballroom dancing club.

    1. Thanks, Kaylin! :D! The game and the dancing have definitely been adding more excitement to my life! :P

  3. the ballroom dancing sounds like so much fun – and those dresses are dazzling! Thanks for joining us for tea. :)

    1. It definitely is!! The dresses make me wish I were rich, hahaha.

  4. YOU are so busy! I”m kind of a early bird and night owl person…but you definitely got me beat!

    1. I’m a horrible, horrible early bird, but my job unfortunately forces me to kinda be one, hahaha. x_x

  5. Yay for making history, and that’s so cool you’re doing ballroom dance. I hope you get to actually perform in a beautiful dress one day!

That’s good your hospital ban was lifted so you could be with your patient. But seriously! That’s a ton of time without sleep. I think the most I’ve gone is maybe 24 hours? Probably not much more than that.

    1. I hope I get to also! It’d be so much fun! :]

I’m really glad they lifted it too–I was so worried I’d miss it! x_x I’m glad it all worked out ok, and the sleep I got after that whole several-day fiasco definitely felt reallyyy nice!

I’m on the side of getting you a new phone with an updated camera, haha.

    1. I dropped my phone and cracked it about a month ago. I’m trying to make it last as long as possible! :'(

        1. But what’s wrong with the one I have now? :'( (Minus the cracked screen, hahaha.)

Screen, camera, storage, uh newer OS. You know, all the tech things that make your stuff look good. And longevity, haha

? My phone is a fighter! (Or at least, I’m trying to make it one ._.)

  6. I haven’t changed my hair in two years. I love my blonde pixie! Because of that, I have to get it cut every five weeks. It’s super expensive and time consuming. However, I really like it and I get a lot of compliments so I will keep it up! ‘o)

    1. That makes it worth it though if it’s a hairstyle you really love! :]! The one I got has kindasortmaybe inspired me to cut my hair at least once a year, hahaha.

  7. I’m intrigued by that Achievement app, so I signed up using your referral link. Hopefully, you got your extra points, but maybe I need to do an activity first?

Wow! So crazy to not have cut your hair in 2 years! I like to mix up my hairstyle, but I do all the cutting and coloring myself.
Clarinda recently posted…Ultimate Coffee Date – November 2017My Profile

    1. Aww, thank you! I hope you got the extra points as well! When you join, it tends to retroactively add whatever the hecks you had logged before on apps that you’ve synced up to it, so that was definitely helpful, haha. :P

That’s awesome! I wish I knew how to cut my own hair!

  8. I’ve signed up for Achievemint but I haven’t earned any money from them yet! My running doesn’t seem to make a dent in the points, lol!

Your dancing club sounds a lot of fun! It’s great to be able to have those hobbies you really enjoy.

And I hope you are getting more rest now – I can’t imagine the schedule you and your fellow residents go through! I’m sure your patient appreciated your support!

    1. Darn! I walk a lot (to and from work) but don’t really run. I guess there’s no real way to rack up those points! :P

Agreed! I’m on vacation at the moment so I’ve definitely been catching up on sleep! :]!

  9. Oh my gosh, you were BANNED for working too much? We just can’t win, can we?

Glad you are done with your crazy weekend. I hope you get caught up on your rest. I’m always impressed that you find time to blog.

    1. hahaha, yes. :[ I didn’t know that was even a thing! But I guess my program really does stick to the 80-hour work week and no more than 36(?) hour shifts! Good to know, but for that situation, I really needed them to not, haha. I’m glad it worked out though!

hehe, I’ve been a lot less consistent lately but trying to schedule more posts into the future so I’ll have something to go on! :P

  10. Seriously, I need my sleep! I actually don’t sleep enough on a fairly regular basis — I think a lot of that has to do with my husband snoring. :(

I let my hair go about 6 months, but it starts looking pretty gnarly after just a couple of months. My hairdresser only works on the weekends, though. Which just reminds me I meant to make an appointment for THIS weekend and haven’t done it yet . . .

Once back in college I ushered for a James Bond movie marathon so stayed up for the better part of 24 hours. It was a tone of fun, but that would kill me nowadays!

    1. I definitely don’t sleep enough either (sigh), but hopefully someday!

That was me too! I kept meaning to go get my hair cut but just kept putting it off because I was busy, haha.

That sounds like it must have been a lot of fun! :D! But yeah, as time has gone on, this whole staying up forever thing has definitely gotten harder!

  11. That cat mug is EVERYTHING. And those dresses – swoon!

    1. haha, right?! The cat shows up when you put in hot water! <3!!

And ah, someday if I'm ever rich!! *-*
Farrah recently posted…Ultimate Coffee Date: November 2017My Profile

  12. That cat mug is the BEST MUG I’ve ever seen! Loving that. And congrats on fulfilling your delivery requirements. It sounds like you’ve had some more busy times recently, but hopefully you’ll enjoy your trip to Lewisburg!

    1. Thank you!! I love that mug, haha. I want one just like it! :P

It’s been awesome over here–I just want the weather to clear up a tad so I can go mountain biking though! ;P

  13. I keep forgetting I have an achievement account – it doesn’t connect with my step tracker though, so it might be another year or 2 before I have enough points to cash out…

I haven’t picked up any new hobbies, because I don’t really keep up with the ones I already have… case in point, I just started re-picking up piano after a several year hiatus.

I don’t think I have ever managed longer than 24 hours without sleep. It feels worse than being drunk to me. People like me are probably the reason you have limits on your hospital hours :)
Hannah recently posted…Who’s excited about snow? Week in reviewMy Profile

    1. That sucks that it doesn’t connect with your step tracker! :[[ Hopefully you’ll eventually get enough though! It definitely takes a while for it to build up. x_x

Yay for piano! <3 I haven't played in the longest time, but I'd love to get back into it again..

      hahaha, most likely! :P

  14. Wait, you got banned because you chose to work more than you were supposed to?! Is that because they don’t want to pay overtime or something? How odd!
Kristy from Southern In Law recently posted…An HONEST Review of Koala Mattresses (and Unboxing Video!)My Profile

    1. haha, I’m on a fixed salary as a resident so there’s no such thing as overtime (or I’d be making bank!! *-* as it is, if I divide out the # of hours I work per week, I’m often getting paid below minimum wage :'( ).

It’s mainly due to concern for patient safety. Since I’d stayed at the hospital overnight, they counted that as me working a full 24 hours and I had another shift right after so they didn’t want me to be working a full 48 hours.

  15. I absolutely love ballroom dance–I knew some people in college who danced in ballroom competitions and I would have loved to do that but you know…life..college…some things you never get around to. And the real equipment is definitely pricey! I love the white and blue ballroom dress you posted, wouldn’t it be so fun to wear?!

    1. Forreals! There are so, so many things I’d love to get into and be awesome at, but not enough time to do it all. :[ Doesn’t hurt to try though! :P
