Ultimate Coffee Date: February 2019

Welcome to the Ultimate Coffee Date! Does it feel like January just flew by to anyone else? (It sure did for me…)

Ultimate Coffee Date: February 2019

If we were having coffee/tea today, I’d…I’m currently job hunting (by that, I really just mean putting my CV together and writing cover letters). I can’t recall the last time I wrote one of those…but now that I think of it, it might have been back in 2008 when I was interviewing for the internship I got as a medical interpreter that sent me on this entire journey to become a doctor!

I’m also on hospital service right now, which means 12+ hours a day for 6 days a week…which effectively means I’m not having very much time to work on the above (along with studying for boards and my extracurriculars)! I’m doing what I can though, and hooopefully I’ll be sending these out within the next week or so! If luck is with me, this may be the last east coast winter I’ll have to live through!

Completely not related to the above, but I came across this while I was in New York and thought it was pretty funny…

If we were having coffee/tea today, I’d…I went to another reddit meetup last weekend (the last one I went to was back in February of last year…) to check out Jill Stuart, a makeup brand that’s now available in the US! If you know me, you probably know I very rarely wear makeup, but part of me keeps wanting to experiment just because it seems fun (like another form of art?)! I end up being too lazy (or just valuing sleep more).

We were greeted that morning with a delicious breakfast (see above <3). There were makeup artists there to do our makeup, a showroom to check out all the different swatches of their products, a makeup demo, and some time for questions + answers, I really liked their jelly eye colors–the consistency was so fun! It also showed me that you don’t actually need all much time to put together a look!

I opted for a really natural look, so the makeup artist used the following on me!:

  • Believe Me M407 and Special Holiday G304 eyeshadow
  • Jelly Eye Color in Rose Romance (#04)
  • Lip Blossom (#41; very natural looking pink)
  • Blush (#05, New Romance – the lighter color works really well as a highlighter)

This was taken like…10-11 hours after application. :o

If we were having coffee/tea today, I’d…tell you that I joined the circus am finally taking aerial silks classes! There’s a place pretty close to me that offers all kinds of classes in circus arts. I’ve known about it since I first moved here but classes never worked out with my schedule until…well, now. I’m taking their Silks I class right now and have had 4 lessons so far (which is effectively 2-4x the amount of lessons I’ve taken per year since 2012. It’s been so much fun! <3 If I had it my way, I’d also be in Lyra, Rope/Spanish Web, and probably Contortion + Hooping, but alas, my schedule (and my wallet) do not quite agree with my ambitions. Someday!

If we were having coffee/tea today, I’d…tell you that my last piece of news = I just found out my case presentation got accepted to be presented at this year’s American Medical Society for Sports Medicine conference in Houston! …but the conference is the week leading up to when I’m taking my boards, so I don’t think I can make it happen. :[ Think they’d let m defer for a year? :\

  • What’s been going on in your life?
  • Have you ever written a cover letter? Any tips for me? :P
  • Do you wear much makeup? Do you have a favorite brand? My favorite drugstore brand has always been NYX, but I think Jill Stuart’s gotta be my favorite high-end-but-still-affordable brand!

  1. January did fly by! Good luck on the job hunt and congrats on the acceptance.

    1. Thanks! I hope the job hunting goes well! I’m trying to see if there’s a way I’ll be able to make the conference. :[ Not sure how that’ll pan out, but fingers crossed!

  2. That fruit plate looks amazing! What a fun way to be welcomed.

    1. Agreed! :D I wasn’t expecting so much delicious food!

  3. Congrats on your case presentation being accepted! I hope you can find a way to go to the conference. What an honor! What kind of job are you looking for? Something temporary while you wait to reapply for your fellowship? Hospitalist?

Best of luck! What an exciting time for you!

    1. Thank you so much! :] I hope I can too! (I wonder if they’d let me defer a year??)

I’m looking for an outpatient-only job, most likely in northern California, hehe–I’m hoping to never have to do hospital medicine or OB again after I graduate, and thankfully, there’s a lot out there for that! :]

  4. Ugh on the conflict between the conference and the Boards! I hope you figure something out. The aerial adventures sound fun. I have a very basic makeup routine and even that is probably not necessary since I sit behind a computer most of the day!

    1. I really hope so too! I have until 2/18/19 to accept, so I have a little time to see what I can figure out!

It’s been super fun! :] I’m kinda with you there–I have a go-to “routine” of sorts that I end up doing if it’s a special event or something, but generally I kinda don’t bother. It’s fun to play with though!

  5. Makeup events are always fun. Love your aerial yoga photo. I have tried it a few times and really enjoy it. Good luck with the job hunting. Anyone would be lucky to have you! Thanks for joining in for coffee

    1. Agreed!

It’s so much fun! We’re having a student showcase at the end of March–I’m excited to see what we come up with and how much we’ll learn by then! :]

      Thanks so much! :]

  6. Wow you just reminded me that I haven’t updated my resume or cover letter since 2011 – yikes! I should probably do that eventually lol.

I hope that you will be able to go to that conference!

    1. hahaha, I just keep a running master list of everything I’ve ever done and try to add to it when I do something new. Makes it easier to have something already there when I need to throw something together! 😛

Thanks! I hope I can too..

  7. Oh man that arial class looks amazingly fun!

What’s going on with me. Well … today I wrote about Dry January which was a surprisingly fun experiment.

Yes. I’ve written cover letters. More important I was a hiring manager for about 10 years. I love brief letters. They aren’t exaggerating when they tell you that people look at them for 3-5 seconds. Get right to the point I am the perfect person for this job because of XYZ. Good luck!

    1. Ooo, that’s definitely helpful knowledge! I’ll definitely keep that in mind! :] Thanks so much!

  8. That’s a ton of super exciting news! Congratulations! You should be so proud of getting accepted like that!

Best of luck on your job hunt! I hope you find just what you’re looking for!

I never spend a ton of time on makeup, but I do hate leaving the house with a naked face. Worst case, I’ll throw on some tinted moisturizer and mascara. It takes no time at all. Over the last months, I’ve paid a little more attention to contouring and getting braver with some of my “evening” looks when I go out, but even that is quick and doesn’t need to be complicated.

    1. Thank you! <3! I hope it all works out!

I've been doing better with daily sunscreen + moisturizer in the morning, but not so much on anything else. It's definitely reassuring to hear that it doesn't take long/isn't too complicated! I might start just so I can start to use up the things I have, haha. That's cool that you're getting into contouring–it always amazes me when I watch youtube tutorials!

  9. Circus Arts, How daring. Not me!!

Good luck with the job hunt.

I don’t wear a ton of makeup and for that reason spend very little on it. Just some tinted moisture, lipstick and eyeliner because I go to work. Otherwise much less.

    1. It’s a lot of fun!! :D But I agree, it definitely can be scary, haha.

Makes sense! I may start, just so I can start using up what I currently have! :O

  10. You are such a busy gal! I am always so impressed with all the stuff you squeeze in. As for makeup, I’m guilty of wearing something every day. I use mineral powder foundation (from Bare Minerals), which is ultra light but has just enough coverage to even out my skin tone. I never leave the house without eyeliner or lipstick….my lips are ultra dry, so I need something on them anyways….might as well add a little color while I’m at it ;-)

    1. hehe, I like way too many things, so I’m always trying to squeeze stuff in!

I’ve heard great things about Bare Minerals! And I feel ya–especially in the winter! I got some fairly hydrating lipsticks on sale a little while back, so I might as well start using em’ too! :P

  11. Thanks for sharing love! Good luck in the job search!

    1. Thank you! :]

  12. Sounds like you have a lot on your plate right now! I love the natural look you went with! I always plan to do a natural look but end up going overboard haha! Good luck on your job search!

    1. haha, I always think I’m gonna try something dramatic for once, but always end up going the natural route instead! :P One of these days…

      Thank you!

  13. That arial silks class looks like it would be so much fun and a good workout!!! Congratulations and good luck with your job search!

    1. Thanks so much! :]!

  14. Huge congrats on your case presentation being accepted!

I bet that ariel skills class is so much fun!

Best of luck with your job search.

    1. Thank you!! :]!

  15. Those aerial classes look so fun and good luck with job hunting!!!

    1. Thank you! Fingers crossed!

  16. Wow! That aerial silks class looks amazing! I would love to give it a try. How high up were you in those pictures? Good luck job hunting! Hope you find something great very soon!

    1. I’m unfortunately pretty terrible with guessing heights, so I’m honestly not sure! :/ I hope you get to try it out sometime! It’s definitely a great workout and a lot of fun! :]

Thank you! I hope so too!

  17. Girl, you absolutely KILLED IT in January! WHAAAAT! So much exciting news. CONGRATULATIONS – for everything! :) Good luck on your job hunt as well, I’m currently rewriting my CV and writing cover letter after cover letter!

So cool that you’re doing aerial silks. I always see photos of it on my Facebook feed and it looks like such a fun time!

My son is TWO soon! I can’t believe I’m writing that down. I doesn’t feel like two years have gone by yet. It’s crazy! I’m deep in planning mode and trying to figure out what foods I want for his breakfast/brunch celebration. I honestly don’t wear a lot of make up. I’ve been really lazy as of late and have been throwing on moisturizer and mascara for work – that’s it. Eep. I look like a ghost but I’m embracing it!

    1. Thanks so much! Best of luck to you on your CV and cover letters! Those were a pain to write, haha. :'(

Time flies by, doesn’t it? :O! I hope he has a wonderful birthday! :] I’m still on the no-makeup boat right now, but one of these days, I’ll start experimenting again, hehehe.

  18. Congratulations on your case being presented. So awesome! I tried Silks once and keep saying I want to do it again but it never works out. The studio that did Silks.closed recently so I need to find another place and commit. It was great to catch up over coffee.

    1. Thank you! I wish I could go to the conference! :[

Aww, I feel ya! I probably wouldn’t ever be able to take these classes if not for the one in Hillsborough! (All the other ones I know of are up in NYC. x_x) Hope you find a place soon!

  19. I do not know how you do everything! I’d be dead.

The makeup looks really cute on you & it looks like it was a fun time.

That really sucks about the conference conflict! :(

    1. hehehe, I like way too many things so I’m constantly trying to do everything! ._.

      Thank you! :]

Agreed! I wish there was a way I could do both, but the timing this year just isn’t gonna work.

  20. That meetup sounds like fun! I like the pink shades they used. Hi can never go wrong with a pretty fruit spread!

    1. It definitely was! :] And agreed on the fruit! <3

  21. Congrats on your case presentation getting accepted to be presented at the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine Conference! What a shame that you don’t think you’ll be able to go.

I’m sure I would fall on my head if I tried an aerial silks class. LOL

    1. Thank you! And agreed–I wish it’d been a different week!

hehehe, we start pretty low to the ground first, if that makes it any better! :P

  22. The aerial silk class looks like fun! My daughters would love it but they may still be too young which makes me wonder if kids would be able to do this. They are obsessed with the GreatestMan show movie and loved the acrobatic parts of the movie.

    1. How old are your daughters? They usually have kids classes available and the kids seem to have a tonn of fun with it! I wish this had been around when I was little–it would’ve been so cool to start young! *-*

  23. What a busy and fun-packed time in your life! Our fellows are all finding out about their job applications and so far, so good – everyone is getting their top choices! Good luck to you. Those classes look so fun!

    1. That’s awesome! :] + thank you!! Fingers crossed that it all goes smoothly!

  24. I don’t know how you find the time (or energy) to fit aerial classes into that schedule, but kudos!

Congrats on the conference presentation – I hope you can figure out how to make it work!

    1. hehehe, I have a habit of trying to always do everything, so I’ve gotten really good at managing my time! :]

I wish I could! I probably should focus on the exam though. If only there were a way!

  25. Oooh that makeup looks really cool! And congrats on your presentation! But boo for the timing!

    1. Thank you! + agreed on the timing! :[

    1. Oops. I sent out my applications late last week, but many thanks! :]! Fingers crossed that it all works out!
