Tropical Fruit Chia Pudding

Welcome to our weekly Foodie Friday link up! I’m linking up with Annmarie from the Fit Foodie Mama + Esther from Chocolate Runner Girl to create awesome healthy recipes each week! This week’s theme is New Ingredient! Make sure you enter the giveaway! :]

Based on my Travel Tuesday posts and the probably somewhat well-known fact that part of me would really love to move to Hawai’i, you might have guessed that I adore tropical fruits (and sunny weather). Summer is my favorite season (perhaps a little less at the moment so given the sporadic thunderstorms we’ve been having, but still), and we also get a lot more Polynesian shows this time of year–I’ve actually gotten to perform with my dance group a couple times this year and it’s been a lot of fun! :]

As a Barleans blogger, I received free products + compensation in exchange for recipe development. As always, all thoughts are mine and mine alone!

I’ve been meaning to make chia pudding for the longest time, so there’s no time like the present–especially when all you want is a super quick and cold snack after a workout on a hot day! (This helped so much with cooling me down! :O )

I’ve been pretty curious about Barleans‘ omega oils for a while now but haven’t actually tried one until recently. I got the piña colada flavor and figured I’d go with the tropical theme–no need to twist my arm on that! ;P It definitely does taste like piña colada, and it’s super smooth!

I bought fish oil supplements a few years back and never actually ended up taking them because I couldn’t get over the fishy-ish taste (I love fish/sashimi/sushi, but oil in capsule form just wasn’t my thing). I also suck at swallowing pills (hence, why I still have a giant thing of vitamin D supplements sitting in my kitchen), so this negates the need for that!

Fish oil supplementation improves several cardiovascular risk factors–physiologic effects occur within weeks of habitual consumption and at typical dietary intakes, can have anti-arrhythmic effects, which can reduce the risk of sudden cardiac death and coronary heart disease death within weeks.

It can also modestly raise high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL; known as the “good” cholesterol). At higher doses, maximum anti-arrhythmic effects are achieved and it also helps to lower triglycerides!

Do be aware that fish oil consumption can also raise low-density lipoprotein cholesterol concentrations (so don’t go to town in over-supplementing)!

  7. Oooh it seems like it tastes really nice. I’ve never had any type of chia pudding, but I see it all the time. I take fish oil pills but I just gulp it down with a lot of water so I can’t taste it. haha
