Rebel Fish & ProYo Treats

This week’s [optional] theme for the Fit Dish link up (hosted by Jill Conyers @ JillConyers.com, &Ā JessicaĀ Joy @ TheFitSwitch.org) is…Try Something New!

Confession: I’ve already taken pretty much every class possible in this area. Aquatic Conditioning? Boot Camp? Zumba? TKD? BJJ? Kickboxing? Yoga? Pilates? Cardio kickboxing? Boxing boot camp? Checkity checkity check check check.

While I’d love to try paddleboarding, I think the river here may be radioactive, and as I have no ambitions to grow extra limbs at this point in time, I will refrain from doing so. I’d also love to try barre and aerial yoga, but the closest studios are at least two hours away. My laptop has also decided that it no longer wants to play music or videos (…).

…So instead, I’m going to tell you about two awesome things I discovered fairly recently. This is not in fact a sponsored post, although I did get the second one for free (delivered with a bunch of dry ice!) because of a giveaway. (Thanks so much, Kat! <3)

#1: Rebel Fish!

I am all about shopping manager’s specials because I am a total Scrooge. (C’mon now, student loans.) I happened upon this last week and was very pleasantly surprised!

rebelfish
Is that not the cutest fish you’ve ever seen? :O! I used to have a giant underbite when I was little, and my parents would always get mad at me for “pouting all the time.” (F: I can’t help the way my face is! :'( )

Anyway.

If you don’t know about my love and adoration for salmon, just know that it’s my proposal food. Rebel Fish Salmon comes in 6 different flavors: Cilantro Lime, Lemon Pepper Herb, Barbeque, Maple Mesquite Smoked Sea Salt, Cajun Blackened, and Thai Chili.

Rebel Fish Thai Chili

I had the Thai Chili and was completely sold. Start-to-finish prep time was 90 seconds. <3

I love companies that promote sustainability. <3 Despite the fact that 70% of the globe is covered by water, only 2% of the world’s food supply currently comes from the ocean.

Rebel Fish is part of theĀ Marine Harvest family, and strives to minimize the impact we leave on our environment by using research and development of aquaculture to develop safe, healthy and tasty food, produced in a sustainable and efficient way. You can find out more about what they do here!

Wanna find Rebel Fish near you? :O Check here!

My super-smooth segway into my second discovery = my trip to Monterey, because it deals with sustainability/greener living and…food adventures that include frozen yogurt!

#2: ProYo Treats!

Frozen yogurt is one of my other favorite things on this planet. My favorite tends to be the tart fruity flavors where I’ll pile on a bunch of fresh fruit, some cheesecake bits, and if I’m feeling super fancy, mochi bites. We had a billion of them back in my undergrad, but that’s not so much the case here. (There’s one though!)

But like you’ve probably realized, I don’t like going out to eat because it’s astronomically expensive.

These frozen yogurt treats come in 3 4-fl oz. tubes per box. Each tube is 160 calories and has 20g protein. Twenty!! (The powerlifting side of me especially loves this fact, har har har.) In addition, they are:

  • GMO-free
  • Low in fat (2g/tube)
  • Soy-free
  • Gluten-free
  • 3g fiber per tube

There are four different flavors: Vanilla Bean, Banana Vanilla, Dutch Chocolate, and Blueberry Pomegranate!

ProYo also provided me with this super-handy graphic for if you want to make a protein-packed, but protein-powder-less smoothie. :D!

  1. I am so jealous of your extensive amount of varieties of classes taken. I NEED to take more classes! They usually cost money…hence, why I fail at this part. I am a saver vs. a spender. Ha! But I know I need to live a little more. Always had paddleboarding at the top of my list, so I hope to do that as well!

You are so right, the rebel fish is kinda cute on the packaging. And I’ll try any seafood. So far I haven’t found one I do not like. Proposal food?! Salmon?! I must go read that article, I had no idea! But salmon is my favorite fish. :)

    1. I’m super lucky in the sense that almost all the classes I’ve tried here have been free because I’m considered a hospital employee, which means a free gym membership! (That actually factored into why I chose this region as my base site for rotations, haha. :x Oh, priorities…)

I totally feel ya on the saver vs. spender though! Over the last several years, bartering has really helped me to keep costs down as far as spending goes (e.g. being an accompanist for my friends and getting limitless home-cooked free meals as a tradeoff). :x

hehehe, that will lead you to a glorious conversation with one of my med school friends, as well as all the things that’d make my heart all melty in terms of a significant other. :P!

  2. Also, had to mention, you should definitely check out the Sustainable Seafood Blogging Project. I’m a part of that blogging group because they highly support sustainable seafood. They’re having their first convention this year in June in New Orleans. Again, spending money is a problem for me…but I SO wish I could go!! The ticket prices aren’t bad if you’re a member of the group. Just check them out sometime, I think you’ll like what you see!

    1. Ooo, I’ve seen that icon on your blog before! I shall google them! <3 I would so very much love to go to a blogger conference someday, and...now that I've read up on this one, it seems super-awesome! I fit #1, #2, and #5 of their "Who Should Attend?"! :'( I've never been to New Orleans, and it's one of my visit-someday locations! (I wonder where their next conference will be at?)

June 26 is actually the day I finish my 3rd-year rotations, but I need to move all my stuff back to WV before July (sigh). Also, hooray for the Monterey Bay Aquarium! I've actually kindasorta written about their Seafood Watch project in my Monterey post! <3

  3. Those salmon flavors sound so delicious! Salmon is definitely my favorite fish and I could eat it every day! I do have noticed that those wild caught and coming from sustainabke practices taste much much better. I love fruit in my pro-yo too! ;)

    1. Don’t they?! I wanna try them all, but they disappeared from Kroger (why!?!) and I’m super sad! I’d be eating it every day too if I were rollin’ in money! :D

Definitely agreed with the wild-caught + sustainable practices, and hooray for proyo! <3

  4. Salmon and smoothies, eh? An interesting combo! I love salmon, but I definitely need to have it in doses, otherwise I OD on it and then can’t be around it…

    1. hahaha, yeah, it definitely worked out to be a somewhat strange combo in this post (I tried these on different days), but I’m the same way with salmon. I’d probably die of mercury poisoning if I were rich enough to eat it as often as I’d like to.

  5. you have tried some great products this week! I love salmon and that packaged salmon looks great! I love the different flavors! Nice smoothie recipe- I need to explore adding yogurt to mine in place of some of the powder, new ideas are always great! Have a fantastic week!

    1. Same! I’m glad I tried this out, because I usually forget that using yogurt in smoothies is an option, haha. :P This one made the smoothie super creamy and delicious!

  6. I love salmon- I will have to check out Rebel Fish if I can find it in my area. I’ve never tried Proyo treats but that smoothie looks amazing! :)

    1. They’re both super awesome! Salmon and froyo are definitely two of my favorite things ever! :P

  7. I love the idea of that fish since it comes with its own seasoning packet all ready to go. What a simplistic (but I’m sure delicious) dinner!

    1. Indeed! :D I love how quickly it can be prepared. :] I had it after a workout and it was glorious! <3 I can't wait to try out the other flavors!

Rebel Fish looks awesome! I’m totes going to look for it the next time I hit the grocery store. One of my favorite post-workout dinners is fish with steamed spinach so this looks right up my alley :)

    1. I hope they start being offered in stores everyyywhere! :D Fish with steamed spinach = one of my favorite dinners!

  9. YUM smoothies! I love your little instructional picture. I think a lot of people don’t really know how to make a smoothie properly and it kind of is an art! I need to try ProYo!
Erin recently posted…Battling Ropes : Trying Something NewMy Profile

    1. hehe, I got the instructional picture from ProYo! It’s super cute. :D!

Very true! I used to just throw things together and hope for the best! (Alright, fine. I still do that now, but now, it actually comes out okay most of the time! :P )

  10. Salmon is one of Shawn’s favourite meals, too. He likes so much bad stuff that I’m so happy he likes something as healthy as this – and something I feel very competent at cooking (for a vegan… hehehehe). It’s a shame we’re not in the States anymore, he would have LOVED these different seasonings!
jess meddows recently posted…Glow Worm Tunnel NewnesMy Profile

    1. Yay for salmon! I’m glad he likes this too then! :P I don’t prepare fish as often as I should/would like to–I’m still trying to work through all the stuff in my apartment before I buy more food, haha. It’s definitely a work in process!

  11. I’d buy that fish based upon the packaging alone, I love it!! And I also love salmon :)
