November 2015 Top Posts

Hello, world! This week’s The Fit Dish (hosted by Jessica and Jill) theme is “I feel the most confident when…”

I’m going to go on a little tangent first–if ever there was a time to pray for me/send good thoughts my way, the time would be now, especially in the realms of good weather, and no travel delays/mishaps/complications! (I would really appreciate it!)

I have 4 interviews over the next 3 days in 3 different states (NC, NJ, CA).

I’m driving to North Carolina today, then flying to New Jersey tomorrow afternoon, and then flying to California the afternoon after that + driving another 4 hours to get to those last two interviews on December 3rd.

What was I thinking, right?! ._.

I had two reasons:

  • Miss as few days of my clinical rotations as humanly possible (as it stands, I’ll only have missed 1.5 days total!).
  • Minimize having to fly across the country multiple times–I scheduled all my east coast interviews for while I was still here, and all the west coast ones for when I was back home.

So while I did manage to accomplish the above, the trade-off was a crazy travel schedule. I sincerely hope I’m not brain-dead at my interviews, because I’d reallyyy love to impress these programs.

I may not be the best at what I do, and I may not be innately brilliant, but I like to think that I make up for it with my enthusiasm, passion, and persistence. Part of it was probably because I was born stubborn, but I’m sure the way I was brought up also played a role.

Even when/if I’m struggling, I try to remain positive and to do the best that I can. I think it’s been working out pretty well! :] Game on, m’friends!

November 2015 Top Posts

I’m also joining in on Julie’s new linkup! I thought it’d be a fun way to showcase my top posts of the month, and although I can’t promise that I’ll be able to pop in every time, I’m going to try!

Food

Orange Cranberry Salad – This post is from last year, but it’s a really simple, relatively healthy, and festive dish, so it’s been making its rounds! I actually remade it again this year for Thanksgiving and healthified it, so the revamped recipe will be popping up next month!

Cinnamon PB Protein Balls – These melt in your mouth, and are all sorts of amazingly delicious! <3 I need to go make more!

Sweet Potato Dessert Nachos – I have a thing for dessert nachos (e.g. Apple Nachos), but decided to change it up this year to (a) celebrate National Nachos Day, and (b) make another variety that’d be perfect for fall!

15 Books To Nourish Your Mind – Before my life got taken over by med school, I used to be a super avid reader! These days, I mostly just get to read notes + UpToDate, but these are some of my recommendations! :]

10 Things Medical Students Want You To Know – I’ve been kinda slacking on this section lately (I blame traveling + interviews + med school in general!) This post was inspired by conversations I’ve had with my med school friends throughout this and last year!

Life

How I Survive/Thrive on $50/Month For Food is generally one of my top posts every month! I shared a bunch of my frugal living tips in there. These days, my food budget is actually closer to $10/month (if even) because I’m living in student housing and/or off my pantry stores.

Asheville Adventures – I try to stuff in a little travel and/or exploring when I get a chance to, so between interviews, I went to visit Asheville! I went to so many places that I split it into two posts! This one contains a Balance bar Fall Medley giveaway!

5 “Things” I’m Thankful For – In the spirit of Thanksgiving, I talked about what I was most thankful for this year. :]

The nice thing about California is we all drive fast, so hopefully you’ll get to your destinations sooner than 4 hours.

    1. I really only applied to northern CA programs (I can’t deal with LA traffic, haha), so 4 hours is the max distance! :P

  1. Good Luck!!! Get as much REST as you can, even if not that much sleep, and just try to concentrate on each individual interview. You’ll do great!
