Fitness Goals For 2020

Can you believe we’re already nearing the end of 2019? I’m revisiting my fitness goals from this year and will be sharing my fitness goals for 2020!

Let’s take a quick-ish look at how I did on all the goals I made for this year…

Drink more water (ideally 8 cups/day).

…This is definitely going to have to go onto next year’s goal list as well. I definitely drank more water during my road trip than I normally do, but still not consistently enough.

Start taking aerial silks classes.

I joined the Circus Place for the winter and spring quarter to take aerial silks, and then also aerial lyra classes!Ā  My friend teaches classes near where I work on Wednesdays and Sundays, so I’ve been popping in there here and there.

Go back to lifting (hopefully 2-3x/week).

I failed pretty miserably on this one, but I’m working on getting back to it!

Stay with the salsa club +Ā rock climbing rec team and re-join the ballroom dancing club.

I got to perform with the salsa cub for the RU Salsa Project this year as well, and also stuck with the rock climbing team, although I didn’t get to go to practice quite as much as I’d hoped since I was busy studying for boards. Studying + taking aerial silks + lyra was also the reason why I didn’t end up re-joining the ballroom dancing club after all. (I passed though, so all good!)

Try to do yoga + stretching at least 3x/week.

This was a miserable fail as well. :/ I managed to do this maybe once a week.

Fitness Goals For 2020

This was from a photoshoot I did with Little Boxes Theater earlier this year! :]

Drink 7-8 cups of water per day.

Let’s face it–this is probably always gonna be on my list. I’ve never been good about staying hydrated and med school/residency taught me to train my bladder because I had no time to go. Reworking terrible habits ftw…

Lift weights 2-3x/week.

There’s a gym near my house and near my workplace that I can go to! Now it’s just a matter of finding days to go that don’t impede on (aka tire me out too much) from the other things I’m doing.

Find a halau.

Found one already, so new goal is actually to just go 2x/week!

Find a BJJ gym.

Found one already! It’s close to where I work and the only one nearby that has morning(!) classes! Not that I’m a morning person. If I manage to successfully convert myself into one though, I plan to hopefully be going 5-6x/week to make up for lost time (aka all the years since I did this. :'( ). (If I’m being more realistic, it’ll likely be more like 3, but one can dream.)

Yoga + stretching 3x/week!

GixoFit turned into OpenFit last month–I’ve been pretty bad about doing classes consistently, but I’m hoping to fix this.

Pole + Aerial Silks 1-2x/week.

We’ll see how this goes! Right now, my free days to go to pole/silks are Monday + Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings, so check in in a year’s time and we’ll see how that went, haha.

  • If you made any goals for this year, how did you do on them?

  1. I had a particularly non-stellar year as far as fitness is concerned, with doc’s orders to take it easy on the physical activity with the complications I had in pregnancy….so…0 athletic achievements for 2019. Unless the baby counts. But I am feeling so ready to get back to regular Pilates and simply getting outdoors for hiking and play and adventures in this new year! Not planning to start too fast but work on gradually rebuilding strength and fitness, I know I need to! It might be fun to even try some real classes instead of following youtube videos at home, but that might be a little unrealistic for now. You have some ambitious fitness goals for the new year, but I think they’re the kind that will be fun to work on!

    1. Wellll, I think you definitely had a good reason to be taking it easy! (The baby definitely counts as an athletic achievement in my book!) I hope you get to go back to hiking and adventuring soon too. I think it’s a good idea to build back up to it; hopefully you’ll be there before you know it! <3 Best of luck!

  2. These are great fitness goals to have! It’s so easy to be motivated at the start of the new year, so keep it up!

    1. Thank you! I’m definitely gonna try to!

        Great fitness goals to have!
I just hope to also keep motivated to keep it up, this cold weather isn’t helping me!

  3. My goals are kind of constant, year to year…. (1) being active with something every day (even if it’s just a 20-minute walk with the dog), (2) maintain my muscle strength with weekly strength work (I’m not that interested in “gaining” more mass, but I do want to maintain what I have), (3) run 3-4 times a week, (4) stay in the marathon loop (I’m not ready to be done with these LOL) and stay consistent with cross-training.

    1. I feel like I definitely have a lot of repeats/constants as well. It’s good to stay consistent with healthy habits! :]! I’m continually working on that!

  4. I love your aerial yoga photos! Great goals you got this

    1. Thank you! I hope so! :P

  5. I actually feel like this is the first year I may not make a fitness goal. If I maintain what I did last year, I’ll be happy. (Maybe THAT”S my fitness goal!) :)

    1. That’s a good goal! Maintaining is half the battle! :o

  6. You’ve got some great goals for 2020. I struggle with drinking enough water too – I feel like that one is always on my list :)

    1. That one is probably going to stay on my list for all of time, haha. I’m so bad at it!

  7. Wow you had quite a mix of fitness goals for the year. Congratulations on achieving all that you did. My goals are all running based and the cross training and conditioning work that support it so I stay pretty focused. Good luck with your 2020 goals

    1. Thank you! Best of luck to you as well! :]

  8. I love how you’re writing down your fitness goals and keeping track of your New Years Resolutions. It’s such a nice way to see the milestones each year. This is something I need to get in the habit of doing. I think just writing them down and going back to them keeps you more accountable to your own goals. Great idea!

    1. Agreed! I feel like I forget about em’ if I don’t write em’ down somewhere. When I revisited last year’s goals, I barely remembered making them! :o

  9. You have SO much variety in your goals – I love it!

    1. I like too many things! :O

  10. It sounds like you are trying to fit in even more variety of activities than I am! Itā€™s great but give yourself a break given the fact that there are only so many days in a week!

    1. I’m definitely gonna have to find a good rest day (it just may vary per week at this rate, hehe)!

  11. These are some great goals! I love how you have such a variety of fitness interests! I’d love to learn ballroom dancing. :-)

    1. Thanks! Itā€™s a lot of fun! I really miss that and salsaā€”I need to find a way to squeeze that in every now and then!

  12. The aerial yoga photos are amazing!! I have not made any fitness goals yet, but I need to get on it!!! I would like to do more strength training and yoga for sure.

    1. Thanks! I’m hoping to get back into silks regularly again! :]! Best of luck to you on your goals!

  13. Love these goals! I need to add in yoga and stretching too!

    1. Best of luck to you on your goals! :]

  14. I definitely need to drink more water too – that is such a good goal. Also that Aerial class looks so amazing!

    1. I’m so bad at it!! Definitely something that’s probably always gonna stay on my list, haha. + silks is super fun (and a great workout! :]!)

  15. It can be so hard finding that balance! My loves are ultra running and weight lifting. I get those done, no problem. But I also want a regular yoga routine, I want to ride my bike more…it’s so hard to fit it all in!

  16. These were such great goals! I love that you attempted to do yoga! Keep at it, yoga is so beneficial & is definitely my favorite way to move my body! Something I need to continue to work on is making sure I’m drinking enough water!

    1. I’m definitely going to try! That one (+ drinking more water) is allllllways on my list of goals because I’m terrible at being consistent with it. ._.

  17. Setting goals is a step in the right direction – better than a lot of people! Looks like you’ve already set things up for next year to be more successful!

    1. Thanks! Hopefully I’ll be able to keep em’ going throughout the year! *-*
