Copycat Orange Berry Blitz

Welcome to Foodie Friday! I’m linking up with Annmarie from the Fit Foodie Mama, Esther from Chocolate Runner Girl + Jess from Hello To Fit to create awesome healthy recipes each week! This week’s theme = Kitchen Cleanse!

Confession: I haven’t actually really cooked/made any food since the first Foodie Friday of this year (yay for onigiri!).

I’m going to blame Internal Medicine because I can. Things might change soon(?), but possibly not for the better (at least in terms of hours) because my next rotation is…Neurosurgery! Their days start at 6 a.m. and I live ~1/2 hour away if there’s no traffic. (Traffic is something that I definitely did not miss about home.)

The plus side is that I apparently get free access to the university’s gym(!!!), and they have a grappling club where I can get in free open mat time for jiu jitsu! (Yay for squeezing healthy additions into your life whilst on a budget?)

I have my very first pole performance for an AIDS LifeCycle Benefit next weekend and I haven’t actually been on one in over a month. (That’s clearly gonna go well! :O But if you live in the bay area and are free, you should totally come–it’ll be fun!) I went to BJJ for the first time in over a month last weekend and the warm-up almost did me in. (Oh deconditioning, how I abhor thee.) The class was super fun though, and Rhalan looked pleasantly surprised (as did I) when I managed to get him in a leg triangle!

I’m also hoping to pop in on salsa classes/nights at or near the university (+ hooray for being able to live at home for the first time since 2011, and getting to go to Twirly Girls on the weekends if I’m not working!)!

Is my super long random weekly tangent/life update over? Why yes, it is!

I do actually still have a new recipe for you this week, because I like to be prepared!

Wayyyy back in the day, one of my favorite cousins took me and my brother to Jamba Juice for the first time. We have pretty much the same taste in most foods, so we both ended up choosing the Orange Zinger, and from there on out, although there have been a bunch of other awesome flavors, that one has always been our favorite. It was later renamed as Orange Berry Blitz, and in more recent years, I think it was taken off the menu because it just wasn’t as popular as the rest. (Haters.)

I randomly/accidentally made a healthified copycat version of this wayyyy back in the day, but wanted to also try making the legit version! Thankfully, the internets made this possible. I nixed the ice because we don’t ever use ice at home, and the frozen berries are cold enough as it is!

Copycat Orange Berry Blitz

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup (or 2 scoops*) pineapple sherbet
  • 3/8 cup (or 1.5 scoops) frozen blueberries
  • 3/8 cup (or 1.5 scoops) frozen strawberries
  • 1 cup orange juice

Instructions:

  1. Add everything into a blender and mix to desired consistency!

*By “scoop,” I mean an ice cream scoop!

End-of-Week-ish Recap!

  • I talked about the importance of following your dreams for Medical Mondays this week! I also shared the link to my scholarship essay in that post on how/why I decided to go into Family Medicine! :]
  • As I mentioned above, IM has rather long hours, so it’s my source to blame for my lack of posts lately! :P

  • Have you ever had Jamba Juice? Which is your favorite flavor?
  • What’s a fitness class you’ve been wanting to take?

  1. It sounds like med school is keeping you busy! This recipe looks like it has such a rich and creamy texture, but all the frozen fruit means no guilt!

  2. Jamba Juice is good stuff! We didn’t have it in Michigan, though, so I associate it with vacation because we only got it while we were on vacation. Angel got a blender for Christmas and ever since we’ve been loving our smoothies!
