Cascadilla Gorge Trail

Welcome to another Travel Tuesday! I’m dragging you back to Ithaca with me to check out the Cascadilla Gorge Trail! (I’m so jealous of the people who go to Cornell–their campus is by far one of the prettiest I’ve ever been to!)

The Cascadilla Gorge Trail was constructed back in the late 1920’s and runs right through downtown Ithaca to the Cornell campus!

Address: Linn St, Ithaca, NY 14850
Distance: ~1 miles (out and back)
Duration: < 1 hour
Difficulty: Easy
Elevation: ~400ft
Fee: Free

The trail is pretty short and won’t take more than an hour out-and-back, although if you stop for pictures everywhere and/or to eat lunch, it could take a bit longer! We came across a super badass bird along the way.

It’s not a difficult trail unless you’re not a fan of stairs. There are lots and lots of stairs, but I think of this as more of a scenic walk than a real hike. There are a bunch of gorgeous waterfalls (I think 8 in total?) along the way as you follow the trail alongside Cascadilla Creek.

I’ve hiked this twice in the summer around June and there are usually a lot of people on the trail, but it’s never been super crowded.Ā There are tons of trees along the way so there’ll be lots of shaded areas.

The trail is open during daylight hours usually from early spring to late November (it can get icy/slippery in the wintertime!). Make sure you pay attention to the warnings and heed the trail closures (for this and all other hikes!)!
