A Weekend in DC

Welcome to anotherĀ Travel Tuesday! Have you ever been to DC? That was my first stop during my road trip, and my brother + I managed to stuff in a tonnnnn of destinations in that weekend!

A Weekend in DC

Only have a weekend to spend in DC? Pack in as much as you can with this weekend itinerary! #DC #washingtondc #travel #itinerary

My brother and I got to DC on Friday afternoon, which was way later than we’d meant to get there, but the plus side to DC is that it’s very walkable (a walkability score of 98!). We decided to start off by walking to the Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, and the World War II Memorial, and the White House.

We enjoyed breakfast over at Founding Farmers–the food was amazing, but I’d highly recommend getting a reservation like we did, or you’ll be waiting for hours!

Although we’d planned a pretty extensive itinerary, we reworked it a bit on Saturday when we got to the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History because we felt it’d be better to stay and explore at one museum vs going to a ton of different ones but not seeing much. Quality over quantity!

We tried to go to the Smithsonian National Museum of African-American History but they were out of tickets for the day, so we went to the American History museum instead, and also checked out the outside of the U.S. Capitol Building and the National Portrait Gallery!

Originally, we’d wanted to see the Independence Day firework show at the Mount Vernon Estate + Gardens in the evening, but they were out of tickets, so we had dinner instead!

I got a pizza with mushroom truffle sauce, mozzarella, chicken, arugula, and mushrooms.

On Sunday, we biked to Arlington to get breakfast at Tupelo Honey with one of my friends! (The food there is amazing!)Ā It’s only $7/day as long as you return it in under 30 minutes! (We just biked to different areas with the self-serve kiosks until we made it to our destinations.)

After breakfast, we went to visit the Marine Corps War Memorial, Arlington National Cemetery, JFK Eternal Flame, and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

Afterward, we biked over to the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum! I had to drop my brother off at the airport that evening since he had work the next day, so I went to visit/stay with Trish that night!

Places we wanted to get to but didn’t get a chance to visit were the Newseum, Smithsonian National Zoo, National Archives Museum…and all the museums. I’ll have to go back someday to visit the rest! :]

    1. This was the first time I really got a chance to explore it, but there’s so so much to see! I’m gonna have to go back sometime!

  4. I ahve been to washinton once, for a weekend wedding. So much fun. Besides from the fact that travelling from Sweden to DC takes kind of forever, and you dont exactly have forever during a weekend. The Jetlag was crazy!

    1. Ahhh, that definitely makes sense! I’m glad you got to go there though, even if it was just for a little bit! I think I’d need at least a week to explore everything I wanted to see!
