6F Cakes of Yore

Since I’m off on my surgery rotation right now and it was my birthday earlier this week, I figured I’d do a cake dessert documentary of years’ past today! :]

As per 6F tradition, when any of our birthdays start to loom near, the soon-to-be oldie is cordially requested demanded to produce the following:

  1. Wishlist
  2. Cake/Bread/Pie/Celebratory Food of Choice
  3. Restaurant of Choice

After dinner, we’d generally return to 6F (our apartment) and watch movies/play games/laugh until our throats hurt the next morning. <3 These games (The Naked Game and Telephone Pictionary were great crowd favorites–I’ll write a post on those sometime!) would inevitably call for the incorporation of our nicknames, of which there are many. >_>

This documentary dates back to April of 2009 (and kinda stops up in 2011 because that’s when I moved across the country. Hopefully, I’ll be on that end of the country once more someday! (No offense meant to where I am now. I just really miss warm weather/my friends + family!)

My favorite color is blue (in case you ever wondered why my whole layout/theme = varying shades of blue), so completely unbeknownst to me, my significant-other-at-the-time secretly teamed up with my friends to make me a blue velvet cake and piled it up with fruit. :]!

The cake that started it all! Sorry about my rather unsightly finger!

  • July 2009 (Reyā€™s Fruitcake) ā€“ Thai Recipes

We had to eat the surrounding layers to make it look nice.

  • August 2009 (Clareā€™s UFO Cake) ā€“ KetMoRee

We accidentally removed all the candles before taking a picture! :[

  • October 2009 (Kayleenā€™s Squiggle Cake) – Jusco

The weird candles we found suit her personality perfectly :P

  • November 2009 (Nadiaā€™s Orange Cake) ā€“ Jusco

This is the last of the 2009 cakes!

Quite unfortunately, when the start of 2010 came along, pictures went out the window because life on my end was filled with things like 11 classes + 3 internships + 1 club + 1-3 job + senior recital preparations rolled into each quarter.

I have no idea how I used to live like that, and am probably insane to miss it, but I do, with every fiber of my being. (Maybe I just miss my friends + Davis). For whatever the reason (maybe we scarfed it down too quickly), the only pictures I have for our 2010 endeavors = for Reyrah + Nadia.

  • February 2010 (Junā€™s Bread Pudding) ā€“ Cattlemenā€™s [no picture :[ ]
  • April 2010 (Farrahā€™s Tiramisu) ā€“ Cattlemenā€™s
I actually walked in on my best friend making this for me, so he offered to let me lick the bowl if I didn’t tell our housemates that he had not succeeded in keeping it hush-hush. I was so happy about the prospect of this that I helped to wash the dishes he’d used (“It’s gonna look so bad if they walk in right now!!!”)!

  • August 2010 (Clareā€™s Apple Pie) ā€“ I was back at home, so I wasn’t present for this. :[
  • November 2010 (Nadiaā€™s Chocolate Cake) ā€“ Cattlemenā€™s
(Can you tell that we are madly in love with meat (or in my case, ribs)? >_>

[If you look at this upside down, it’s “2” + “3” candles for 23.] Recipe here!

There's no actual dessert associated with this one, but my med school friends threw me a birthday picnic!

  • April 2014 (Farrah’s Strawberry Mango & Chocolate Coconut Cake with Pecans!)
I got double duty this year because my school friends and church friends each made me an awesome dessert! :O!
Strawberry Mango Cake

Andrea baked this one! :D

Chocolate Coconut Cake with Pecans

Jennifer made this one! We had to get creative with the candling part. :P

This year, I had Education Day in the morning/early afternoon, got to take a nap, and spent the rest of the evening studying. (Such a wonderfully exciting life I live, right!?)

My church friends booked me for dinner to celebrate early! <3

My dean brought "happy birthday" cupcakes + I got a free cinnamon chai latte though! :]

So even though I spent the actual day studying, it was great getting to spend some time with friends! We may be heading off to Kings Island the weekend after this one to joint-celebrate my + my friend’s birthdays! Fingers crossed for warm weather! <3

I leave you with these questions:

  • What’s your favorite dessert?
  • What’s your favorite game to play with friends?
  • If you celebrate birthdays, what do you usually spend it doing?
  • Does Starbucks ever spell your name correctly?

  1. OMG THIS IS THE BEST IDEA EVER. What a fabulous way to celebrate! and I love how everyone comes together for it. I want to try each of them! I don’t think I could even choose which one I want over the other…. But then, you know I don’t like making choices hahaha

    1. Since I’m Asian, I’d do my people wrong if I didn’t take a picture of every edible substance I came across! :P I definitely don’t like having to make food choices either (that’s why “eat the world” is such a wonderful option! <3)!

  2. i love how you have documented cake from each year – thats awesome!!!!

  15. Wow–you guys have sure put a lot of effort into creative birthday cakes of all different kinds over the years! I’m not actually the biggest fan of cake in general, though a few kinds will tempt me. I’m probably going to order a blueberry cheesecake for my birthday this year…

    1. I love cakes with a whole ton of fruit in em’, but am not so much a fan of the frosting, haha. A blueberry cheesecake sounds so good! <3
